It came with air conditioning, am/fm radio, rear speaker, decor moldings, console, California emissions, custom trim and console. It still has the original engine, trans, 3.31 12 bolt and JW rims. Mike, did you use 14 or 15 inch wheels for your formula? - did you have to find a specific offset wheel? - my formula came with the standard wheels; I have the dog dish hubcaps - I just need to get a set of steelies... is there any way of confirming if the steel wheel should have been painted body colour?

When I got my Formula, the wheels were painted body color. The car was 100% original as far as equipment, but it had been repainted once. I met the original owner probably 20 years ago, but I didn't think to ask if the wheels were painted.

I used the original 14x7 steel wheels.

I did buy a set of 15x7 steel wheels that had the same offset and accepted the same centercaps. I got them off a 73 or 74 Grand Prix with hubcaps.

I don't know if it's the same on Firebirds but the early GTO's would use a 3rd paint code letter on the data plate if the wheels were not painted the body color. As an example, the paint code on my 65 GTO data plate read N N A, for burgundy upper and lower and the A was the code for black and that was for the wheels. A paint code of N N would have had burgundy colored rims or rally I wheels. And, if there were no optional wheel covers or rally wheels on the PHS it meant it came with dog dish hubcaps.

Ditto what Larry says Jim - awesome T/A. A Lucy Blue '72 is just flat a fine ride, and yours is one heck of a gorgeous example!

One question, Jim. Have you replaced your rear springs? I just replaced mine with Eaton Detroits, supposedly OEM specs, and it sits higher than I like, a little higher than yours. With my admittedly worn original Y99 springs, it sat just right, about the same distance from the top of the tire to the fender lip as the front.

Seriously, I think I'll hang on to them, at least until I can determine whether the new ones are gonna settle enough to make me happy, LOL!

Old ones are kinda "S" shaped in the front, like they all get after some drag racing.

I installed regular stock replacement rear springs when I first got my car in 1987. They actually sat higher than I wanted them to right after the installation. I tried to keep the gas tank as full as possible and eventually the springs came down to where they're at now.

I suppose I'll go buy a few bags of sand and load it down for a while.

Keeping the tank full is a HUGE problem with this gas hog! Of course, my lead-filled right foot doesn't help any.

Lloyd, give the springs some time to settle. I have had stock Eaton rear leaf springs in my '71 T/A for about four years now and they have settled about an inch or so.
