Default 1972 LeMans GT at BJ

http://www.barrett-jackson.com/Event...S-COUPE-188802

I've never even heard of one of these things....is this a real production model? Looks pretty cool. Any idea what one of these might sell for? (my brother is in the market for Pontiac muscle and we'll be at the auction this year....)

Any thoughts/comments are appreciated.

Thanks

The GT was an option. It included the laser stripe shown on this car.

There were quite a few made, but you don't see them very often any more.

If you don't care about originality, that car is the ticket! Looks good, but wheph!, lots and lots have been changed out.

How far from original is this car? Looks like the air cleaner is incorrect. What is that big thing on the LH inner fender?

tough to tell just how far from original without PHS and seeing the Cowl tag. Cowl tag will show paint and interior that came on the car. Don't get me wrong, the car looks great. The VIN shows the original engine was a 350 2bbl with dual exhaust. Only items I recognize under the hood as original are the power steering pump, fan shroud and the wiper motor. Interior looks nice, but the dash is clearly a remanufactured one. A 1972 dash will have the script PONTIAC located in the upper right portion on the pass side. Dash is puffy and looks like wrong grain. looks like a potential Just Dashes dash. Theirs typically look too puffy. There are no pull straps on the door cards. If this car was optioned with ivory interior, the console would match. Looks like it has a his and hers shifter too. Just shows that this car has been apart....completely apart. Car sits way too high in the back, but easily fixed or leave it to suit personal taste. So it just raises questions as to just how far apart has the car been taken, and what's been done. I'd just want to see it first hand before purchase is all. No clue what that is on the inner fender....a radio amplifier?

The interior is a bright white & it should be an ivory or off white from the factory , & the console will be black with a white car unless specially ordered as white or matching color.

Wrong!

Console in 1972 was white with the white/black interior.

Code 272 Strato Bucket Seats in 1972 were called Ivory but were about as white as white came.

I just saw this post about this car. I use to own this car 17 years ago. I bought it from a guy who had a sb chevy in it with 2 4bbl and cut the hood. The 3rd pic is the car in the early 80s when it has a 428 in it.

Looks like a stereo amplifier. Most put them in the trunk.

LeMans GT was similar to the '71 GT-37.
No T-17 in '72 as LeMans became the base model A body.

I thought I read somewhere that the GT could not be ordered with the Enduro front clip?

This is true - it's in factory literature.

But the reality is they were built.

In '72 the T-41 option could be ordered on any Lemans, even a wagon and a 4 door.

The context was the LeMans GT not being available with T41.

Thing on the fender is a MSD 7A ignition box. And a hot start sol in front of it.

'71 I think was the last year for tuxedo interiors, but could be mistaken on that. I know my '71 was original, it had a black console, dash, wheel/column, package tray, and carpet.

I think when you ordered the standard interior, then added the console as an option, it was seat-color. There too I could be mistaken, that's just always how I had it in my mind. (a dangerous place to dig)

And the comfort weave was the deluxe interior option for that year, right? 71 & 72?
