Default whoa!!

I recently came across a previously unknown (to me) Quadrajet listing;

The application number is 7040271

I had guessed it to be an altitude application - probably a substitute for 7040262 & 7040264;
Becasue I had never come across this number before, I was thinking that the application (which I believe to be absent from 1970 Firebird suppliment service manuals) was deleted.

Just now I came across a listing of one that sold four days ago.

Has anyone ever seen this application number carb before?

huh?

in the context of the assembly manual, the only 1970 Firebird small valve V8's were both 2bbl engines;
If I recall correctly, I believe that the Tempest/Lemans & GP would get a small valve version of the 'base' 400/4bbl if ordered as an automatic, but I am not 100% clear on this;
Otherwise I had long since understood that a small valve 4bbl V8 was fodder for full sized cars.

Possibly they were going to use a low cr head on a 4 bbl engine in the Firebird?
(or they just copied all the carb numbers and put it there)

The Esprit could be had with a 400 2bbl that also included the 12 bolt rear end.
Maybe something pertaining to that?
