Likely...

I don't know if the flat filter can be substituted....
AND of course you know there are 2 variations of the flat filter. One has the screen filter element (I was told by my engine builder to always use the screen type, little potential to clog), and the filter on the shelf at most all parts stores will be the paper media type....

The flat filter can be used if you use the later pan. You really do not need the bolt according to a 1968 GM bulletin.

The screen type flat filter is for an Allison and is far better.

Ask for the AT545 Allison filter that looks like a TH400 filter (there are 2 Different AT545 filters, they do not look even close..) then get a good TH400 gasket...

I installed same early style t-400 by Wix 58879.
Tranny drank about 6 Qts total doing the usual 4 Qts to start then into R - D then right back to P and check level.
I had to patch up the pan's gasket surface some as the cable support bracket made some small holes from contact.
Now the only finished surface under the car ( besides the 55mm shocks) is the tranny pan...lol...some self etch primer & some dupli-color cast aluminum engine paint to the rescue!
Drove to work again and seems fine.
Not sure if my old filter was starting to plug up....what signs does that usually exhibit?
Got to spend a quality day under car doing some wire wheel & POR-15
I did have an issue with the engine oil pan Friday and very lucky I was going to a local shop.

A full year later after digging it out of it's to be grave.
Been a pleasant surprise season with this car and totally met my goals for it first year.
It has responded well to the most minor amounts of attention.
I've been driving it daily & enjoying it's reliability
The more I use it the better it runs... What a sweet ride!

Going out this evening for a sundown cruise
Ordered some color samples from Ames to get the ball on rolling on restoring the gold interior.

Got my color samples from Ames but I'm disappointed they do not offer a Gold headliner.
Just Buckskin & Sandalwood
Is there any other places to get a headliner in color?
