Default Dads 58 Bonneville

Dads 58 probably at Fort Drum. April 64. My Uncle saw it on a car lot on RTE 46 in Little Ferry and told my father who went and purchased it. I believe for $800. Tri-power 4bucket seat car with the sparkle type carpet. He ran Radir mags in nice weather.

Early 1980's. The '68 Bonneville & '67 GTO belonged to my younger brother. I did some minor rust repair on the '68 and resprayed it. I took the '67 down to bare metal and repainted it. The 'rest were mine. '67 convertible, originally Iris Mist, close ratio 4-speed, 3.90 gears (non-posi) Ram Air hood set-up, and had a tri-power installed. 1970 GTO Judge was an original 4-speed car but the engine was repalced with a 1973 7K3 headed 400CI. 1968 GTO 400ci/TH400 white interior, hood tach, 8-track, and repainted with house paint, and not by me LOL.

Thumbs up

More early 80's cars I owned. Had a 1965 GTO convertible shell. No engine, trans, interior. It was a 4-speed car. The body was rust free and clean, and for $150 I had to buy it. Had a nice little GTO line-up looking from the 3rd story apartment me & the ex rented. 1965-1970-1967. I had a 1957 Pontiac that was a nice driver, but was also rusty under the nice repaint. Had a 347CI and I installed the 1956 factory 2 x 4 intake I bought for $15.00. In my time, and small town, no hood meant you had a fast car - it was a performance thing. Only once carb was hooked up and the other had a blocker plate, but it looked impressive and with the 4-speed hydramatic, it moved out quite well. My first car at age 16 was the 1956 Pontiac 4-door HT. Paid $150 through a court estate sale. Originally 2-tone green and white, I learned a little home body work and then had a local auto shop shoot a coat of primer and then th grey metallic. Had the seat redone, added a 1957 Buick grille, porta-wall white walls and later a sunvisor and light up hood ornament. 316CI with hydramatic and at one time installed a 3-speed on the tee from a 1955 Pontiac, but it began giving me problems so back in went the hydramatic. The 1967 Firebird that followed with its tweaked 350CI and 3 speed on the floor got me hooked on the need for speed, burning rubber, racing, and tickets.

Just a few of my many cars that set the stage for my interest in Pontiacs. I had a bunch of other cars as well as I would buy them, and sell them. Got into the 409's when I built one up and installed it in the ex-wife's 1965 Impala SS convertible (283/PG) and the Pontiacs went to the sidelines for a while, and eventually they too got sold off. Got a lot of tickets, but it was fun, and what memories.

You must be young, or never followed boxing.

I love that pic at the drag strip. I love the old funny cars, I built many a model kit of them. Shirley Muldowney does an article in Hemmings every month. Last month she was talking about how a car she had kept stalling. Her son would throw raw gas directly into the breather at the starting line to keep it running. Pretty wild stuff back then.

I wish LOL. I watched Cassius Clay and Joe Frazier fight a couple times and then when Ohio hero Buster Douglas beat Ohio heavy weight champion Mike Tyson. I never watched the other than heavyweight fighters. Except Sugar Ray a couple times. I wasn't thought of when Jack Dempsey fought.

You must be older than me then, I watched Muhammed Ali, LOL. Gave up on boxing about the time Mike Tyson was coming along. Have no need for the ufc stuff, looks like glorified street fighting and I abhore violence.

Hagler, Hearns, Leonard and Duran, all boxing at the same time and against each other. That was definitely the golden era of boxing.
