Yes. I run a Redneck Racing converter ($290) that works great in my race car that I would never change even though the prevailing theory is nothing less than a $800-1200 converter would work. 7.6 % slip across the line and stalls at 5000 rpm which I had built for my car.

True. I called lane at PTC from good words here. I think it was Langer who said it.
His converter 800$ 60 footed slightly worse than my TCI 1200$ converter. MPH about the same but ran 2 tenths faster. Picked up in the middle.
Pontiacs are known for that mid range torque.
He said the same converter would even work in my 540 Gabby E head engine with a few tweaks vs the 455 I am running right now.

Yes..and honestly even if I get the new convertor working properly..I can't see selling the Continental because I know how it works..and it has worked great behind 3 different engine combos I have ran. It was originally built for my 041 cam/6x head 455 that ran low 13's.

I had plans, I was hoping to do Dragweek this year but just not in the cards. So no changes other than putting the Continental back in and leaving the 308's in.
This year the plan is try to get quite a few passes under my belt. I know there is more et left in the car the way it sits. A fellow board member P'M me about spacers. That is one thing I plan to do. I currently run either a one inch open or one inch tapered spacer. I want to add some spacer height to see how the engine reacts.

You have that much hood clearance to test different height spacers?

Depends which filter assembly I use. I don't have much room to use my cowl aircleaner..but if I use my open element aircleaner I just need to use a shorter filter..,normally with it I run a 4 inch filter.

Its a "twin turbo" style. It came with the car when I bought it.

Finally getting around to working on the car. It has been a struggle this year with everything going on with personal and business life to find time for my hobby.
Current goal this year is to drop the et down into the 10.6's with the same basic combination of parts. The trusty old Continental convertor is back in as well as staying with 308 gears.
The only changes will be playing with carb spacers and testing a new carb. I'm hoping to get out this coming weekend.

Old carb Holley 950 HP..flows 770cfm to 830cfm..Depends who you talk to..Tom V figures 770cfm so I lean that way. Stock metering blocks,50 cc acc pump on front and a billet baseplate are the only changes other than jetting and powervalve.
New carb is a Prosystem that flows in the 940cfm range.1000hp mainbody, custom calibrated Venom metering blocks, twin 50 cc acc pumps, billet baseplate..Patrick James figures it's worth a tenth or 2 over the 950HP..see what happens.

Pro systems has done a ton of carbs for street strip Pontiac applications. Suppose to have top notch customer service too. Should work out great.

Maybe now my car will like the higher shift points. With the limited amount of track tuning with this new engine it hasn't responded to higher shift points..runs basically the same shifting at 5500 or 6000 rpm..with a tick slower shifting at 6000 rpm ..which I thought was strange..especially with the 1 /2 shift going from the 2.75 first gear into 2nd.
From dyno data from identical builds it should like a 6200 to 6400 rpm shiftpoint.

If you run with the air cleaner might try a run without it. I was surprised how much the IA/Camaro picked up pulling off the 14x4.

I saw that thread. Maybe the air filter was causing issues as well.I also use a 14 x 4..which should have been plenty big. I do have a Moroso airpan I used a few years back that will work for sealing to the cowl hood and directing air. Thanks..another thing to test.
If I pick up 1/4 of what you saw without an air filter I would be happy!

"it hasn't responded to higher shift points..runs basically the same shifting at 5500 or 6000 rpm"

Interesting... with nearly identical setups, my ET definitely improves running the shift points up to 6-6200.

When I was restricted to a 14x3 air cleaner due to hood clearance (was a closed air cleaner with 2-4" intake holes), I found a defenite ET improvement when running a K&N filter top. However, i am now running a 14x4 air cleaner with a sealed air pan and cowl hood, and no ET difference with or w/o the filter top.

Will be Interesting to see results of your new carb! I have a QF 850 and a QF 1000, and in back to back testing, the 850 is a touch faster for 60ft times, and identical mph on the top end.

On a related note, I will eventually start a new thread looking for suggestions to get my car a little closer to the 10.0 mark
