Default Brown wire

hi,

As I continue to clean up and address wiring under the car so it is neat and tidy.

I came across this brown wire tucked in behind the brake booster on my 69 gto automatic, no ac.

It doesn't appear to have a lot of length to it. It's half melted but my only guess is this would go to a brake propositioning valve "switch" ? However all gto's i've seen restored don't have this prop valve under the master cylinder??? Then again isn't there an idiot light for brakes? So I'm not sure.

Can anyone shed some light on this? I do notice it is a round ending that is female that goes over something.

its for the brake fluid distribution block on the frame down there ....under the booster
see the PIN connector sticking up towards the floor board ? out of the top of the brass junction block ?

Scott
fairly sure the oil wire is blue and a spade connector .... right idea tho ...

Totally agree with above.

At least on ‘68-

Tan- low brake fluid switch
Brown- Heater
Dark Blue- Oil
Dark Green- Temp

IIRC, the 67 model year started the dual reservoir brake system and this wire connected to a switch in the distribution block on the frame which would indicate if one system was dead or not. After 68, this feature was combined in the "combination valve" with the disc cars. The combo valves are sometimes on the MC, and sometimes on the frame.

67-70 abody originals were down on the frame...
71 was the A body combo start ... fairly sure ... a body was still on the frame
but anywayz ,,,, yours goes down there if your brakes are original ....or up top IF
and as stated by 455 above many disc conversions supply the ugly 71 n newer combo valve style
for our older rigs that mounts up by the master cylinder similar to the F body ....
Is your car still fairly stock on the brake parts?

it loks like your working on a 70 ( flat side master cylinder reservoir)
and
I think I can see the stay off valve hanging off the master cylinder mount ....
if so you would/should have this style block https://www.opgi.com/brake-systems/p...UaAtqKEALw_wcB

Dad's 69 GTO with power disc brakes is right under the master cylinder where that plugs in.

Yah, there is none of those valve's present here. Most restorations have the power disk brake hold off delay valve underneath it. As seen in pic. I just don't know where pontiac wanted this wire to go? Not one car show have I seen the valve you are talking about hanging off a 69 gto? Here is a picture of what mine looks like . I took a pic of the block way down on frame but there is no way this line goes all the way down there.

All I can think of, people must be restoring the brake systems using what you see on mine opposed to what came from factory, why in the hell would one choose that instead of proper normal valve that has the switch in-between it! . I swore I saw factory diagrams showing the lines in the exact same configuration off the cylinder as you see here?

Oh okay so my car wasn't restored right, I should have the block... Makes sense. Ok thanks.. Wonder if i can buy it, mount it without having to re-do many lines. Guess I'll have to call In Line Tubing

Ohhh now I get it, sorry the fact whoever restored the car painted it black has thrown me a loop.

I'll see if the brown wire goes that far down and see where the nipple is.

Thanks!!!!

Oh an yes, not happy about it being toasted by headers

"and see where the nipple is." =
its
aimed at the floor pan between the 2 brake lines...right where it may melt on the header tube

Oh my god, that would explain why half the rubber fitting is melted!!! mystery solved, I'll see if the switch is still in there, knowing my luck it was removed and a block of fitting installed! Sure would of been nice to have it hooked up when my front rubber brakes lines leaked and lost brakes heading into my house years ago !!! LOL

whew .... I was ready to throw in the towel .....
leave it alone !!!!!
you got brakes right ??!!
nobody pulls the switch out,,, your overthinkin.... if anything spend your time and build a heat shield
so your brake fluid isnt boiling then gravity feed a quart thru the system

Usually it's a toss up whether the brake light comes on before or after the pedal hits the floor. I also wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks Scott,

yah no doubt , took awhile to get it, lol. i have brakes yes, i think the boiling point of dot 3 is 280F , i did ask a shop owner once about that and he said no not an issue. i like the idea of building a plate that stops the radiant heat from headers onto it. If I ever restore car I'd relocate it and front lines up under neath master cylinder like normal cars. I just like learning , thanks everyone for your help.
