Hello, I am going to replace my canister oil filter, and replace it with a later model spin on filter. Do I need to change anything or just bolt it on?
The reason I ask is canister pressure spring retainer has 1/4 Dia hole, and later model one does not. Thanks. |

I put the filter mount from a '77 400cid Pontiac V8 on my '57. Worked great. Note that there are 3 types of filter mounts. One mounts the filter straight down and is what I got from the '77. One slants the bottom of the filter slightly towards the oil pan. The third I've never seen. It slants the bottom of the filter towards the rear of the car. All use the same gasket to mount to the block as does your original. I used NAPA Gold 1049 spin-on filters.

I used one from a 1963 that was pointed straight down on my 1955. That was over 30 years ago and has worked fine. Any one that points down should be fine.

Just what Bill said, Minre went right into place, I used the straight-down version. I am sorry I can't give any other information. I bought mine from a buddy in Az.
