Default Rear window trim question

Went to put these corners back on and I guess I'm having a numb spell. It looks like it would go on the way it's laying there but doesn't want to go over that far so to get the screw in. It had new headliner, sail panels and rear package tray installed. Anybody have a pic how these look installed?

This is a link to my post in 2018. Your problem appears to be related to how the package tray 'wings' fold up behind the sail panel. The wing near the back glass must be against the steel c-pillar so the sail panel also lays against the c-pillar. This will set back the sail panel to provide the space you need for the plastic bracket to align with the screw hole. BTW, your trim piece orientation is correct in the pic, the notch fits against the vinyl/rubber windlace.

Thanks,,,thats funny i responded to your thread and i dont even remember doing that. Getting old i guess. I had the headliner, package tray (legendary) and sail panel professionally installed. I went to put the plastic corners on the other day to find out theyre not close to fitting.

Sorry for the thread hijack.

The lip that is shown in the OP's pic (blue arrow), is that visible when the upholstery is complete? I never thought about this and am getting closer to paint...my car was Cardinal red with red interior, I am repainting it Cardinal red but changing interior to black, so want to make sure I know what colour I should paint it.

Thanks!

Yes that's visible. In my car the seats are saddle and the rest of the interior is a mix of saddle and dark saddle. That piece of metal in my car is originally dark saddle, the same as the metal part of the dash where the VIN tag shows through the windshield. If you're trying to get a correct color, sheen and texture call kolor korrect. The metal in the back has a low gloss and a slight texture to it like the factory did. I noticed the metal part of my dash had a slight texture to the paint and kolor korrect said their paint for that will have it to which it did. I bought saddle and dark saddle paint from them because I couldn't find anyplace else that came that close to original. Little pricey but very close to correct if that's what you're shooting for.

Thank you very much! I am so glad your post came out when it did, I would have been quite upset to paint it all red and then find out later when installing interior.

I have some low gloss black 2K paint I used when I painted my dash, I will use the same for this area.

Thanks again!

So in my case, those 'wings' lapped over onto the sill for the rear glass, and I had to trim them so the glass would sit right, and the reveal trim to sit flush. I know the factory didn't care, and many leaked there. I know mine was OE when I tore it down years ago, and that wing was covered with butyl tape and racked from sun baking.

Couple pics of it installed/mock-up, before and after trimming.

Sail panels out of the box are FLAT. You should roll them on a large round object before even trying to install them. Otherwise you might get a fold/crease.

Maybe even spray the cardboard backing down, I dunno. I do know it needs an arch to it to even fit. If it's not rolled out some, it will make it tough to get the headliner tight there too.

Leave extra slack on the rear portion of the headliner, stuff it under the tack strip if you have to. As the headliner gets tighter to the roof line, it keeps taking more and more slack out of the back glass in the upper corners, can run out quick.

Mark roughly where the coat hook is before you glue the headliner up. It not only would be difficult to locate after the headliner is in place, but you NEED the coat hooks to pull the headliner into the proper position. Shoulder belt mounts, not so much.

i talked to the guy who installed my headliner, package tray and sail panels. He said the same thing and folded the wings where legendary said to fold them.Everything looks ok until you try to put the plastic corners on which is the only thing I didnt have him do. He said hes going to try to fix it without ruining the package tray. Fingers crossed.
