Default Rear Tail gate window 67 Catalina

Can someone tell me if there is a separate switch that operates the rear window on my 67 Catalina wagon? From the dash the tail gate window goes up & down but when you use the key in the gate it doesn’t work. If you have a picture of the switch that would help and location.

Thanks Peter

I believe the the "other" switch is at the key location, mounted on the inside of the tailgate operated directly by the key. I had a '69 Bonneville wagon that should have been the same. It's been a long time since I had the tailgate apart, so my memory is a bit fuzzy.
There is a removable panel on the tailgate that you can open up to gain access to the switch. It's kind of a pain though as the glass has to be up to access the switch, but the gate won't open if the glass is up and the glass won't go up if the gate is open.

Thank you I will give it a try but you’re right don’t think there’s a easy way to get access to the switch.

I have the same problem with my 68 wagon. The switch on the dash works both up and down but the gate key switch isn’t working. You can get to everything from the access panel on the inside of the gate. You have to have the window rolled up to gain access to the switch.
I still haven’t figured mine out, but it might be a switch that doesn’t let the key work unless it’s in the gate closed position.

Thanks John I tried all the ways with gate up and inserted the key. I don’t even hear a click or any sound that the motor even trying to move. I know the gate has to be closed before it will work regardless.

I’m going to try and just replace the switch if I can get it out; I’ll let you know if I’m successful.

Thanks again

Default 67 Catalina wagon switch

Does anyone know where I can buy a rear window tail gate switch that operates the window with the key?

Thanks

Before you go out to buy a switch I'd first concentrate on power supply, make sure that the switch is properly connected and also test-inspect the wires that run from the switch to the window motor. Even if it turns out that the switch is the problem it is very likely that it just needs cleaning of the contacts.

Here is a pic for your reference. As previously mentioned you need to lay the tailgate flat and through the tailgate latch so the window can be opened by the dash switch. (remember to support the window when you open it in that horizontal position.

Default 67 Catalina wagon switch

Thanks North for the great advise I will try that first before trying to purchase another switch. I thought there were 2 switches that worked the window 1 from the key end and other from dash.
So I should be able to get to the switch in the tail gate in the down position and raise the window.
Thanks

Thumbs up '67 FISHER MANUAL

FWIW; If you don't already have it here is the Tailgate Power Window section that may be of help.

Anyone found an aftermarket substitute that can be put in place for the dash window switch? I’m not dead set on a factory look. But thought maybe something could be rigged up to fit into the old switch plate and be a reliable sub. Mine was super corroded and bad.
