The water base drys very slow for overall jobs. Also you can't tell color until you do a spray out of color. The match on water base is good for new cars.

There is a point coming soon in your area where all the old paints will not be available AS IS HERE in Md.

I can't even get lacquer thinner or solvent wax and grease remover. All thanks to Martin O Malley. All my product must be compliant.

I say have shop mix more than needed now. Tints can vary. fill cans to top. uses small cans (in case you spill one) store in heated area. DBC has a good shelf life. they say the water base is only 6 mouths.

Began assembly yesterday, January 24. Mounted the trunk lid, quarter panel caps, fit tail lamp assy's., and gas door. Need tweaking of trunk lid alignment and gas door height. The repro tail lamp assy. fit and look great!!

What have you found to be the best paint to use for the gas door trim panel? The PONTIAC letters on the repro piece are not painted. They need to be painted white--I believe it's Cameo Ivory that's correct. I remember having to repaint the tail lamp housings and gas door many times due to peeling when my '64 was my daily driver from 1964 to 1968.

What a gorgeous color-can't wait to see it with the parchment interior. Too nice to drive?

It will NOT be too nice to drive. The color is Gulfstream Aqua, which is code "Q". Olds called it Aqua Mist, Chevrolet called it Lagoon Aqua. It was a '64-only color.

Seats and door panels will be Parchment, but we're going with aqua on the dash--60 degree gloss on the lower dash & tops of the doors and zero gloss on the top of the dash. The factory used black & white on the Parchment factory interiors.

My wife would prefer a change to power boosted brakes--the drum types will remain, but will be rebuilt to new specs.

Is anything needed besides the booster? Can I use the existing master cylinder? Is the rod from the brake pedal mechanism the same for power vs. manual brakes?

That'll look really good-they should have done that from the beginning.

Lotta work for 'just a gas tank'.lol. Seriously, that color combo is killer. Going with redlines...or? I love redlines but whitewalls would look great too.

I don't know about tires. I have her BFG T/A redlines 225-70r14's on my '64. I gave those to her for a birthday present about 5 years ago and now they're on my car.

I'm kind of leaning toward poverty caps on my red '64 with redlines or blackwall tires. But, maybe whitewalls would look good on her car. I have two extra sets of the '64 spinner wheel covers and would pick out the best of 8.

What do you think? I attached pictures of various combos.

Yep, I agree. Redlines and dog dishes on the red one and whitewalls (thin) and spinners on the aqua one. Don't think you'd care for dog dishes on both-just my opinion.

I think the redlines on the Aqua look, sporty or racy,,while the skinny whitewall gives a more sophisticated classy look.

With poverty caps I like black walls. With the spinners I like the redlines.

The second picture with spinners and whitewalls rules.

The stance looks perfect too, a little lower in the back and just generally sitting low and sleek.

I vote whitewalls with the white interior and redlines with the red interior. Not just because it sounds clever but looking at the pics backs it up to me.

Still need answers to the following:

1. How to prepare the gas tank door letters for paint. What kind of paint? Cameo Ivory correct?

2. If I change from manual to power brakes, what is needed besides the booster and vacuum line from the intake? Are the actuating rods the same for manual and power? Why couldn't I use the manual master cylinder?

Thanks for the comments on tires/wheel covers. I've also considered Rally I's or II's, but would prefer to keep it all '64.

As some said, whitewalls would look great with the aqua, but redlines & spinner covers look nice, too. Maybe I need to give back to her the redlines I bought for her and buy tires for my red car.

Yes, Bill, these decisions are difficult!!!

If you want to keep it "64-ish" then Spinners and Redlines.

Inline Tube has a nice selection of power brake set ups. You may want to consider the 67 set up they have that uses the dual master, just for safety sake. Or call them, they are good to talk to.
