Default 76 GP Sport steering wheel removal

Hey Guys,

I'm needing to remove my sport/ Can Am style steering wheel to replace the turn signal switch. I swapped steering columns when I converted from a bench seat car to buckets and didnt realize the turn signal switch controls the cornering lights. Im mainly concerned about how the horn pad comes off. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Danny

Welcome! That's a beautiful GP.
Don't know the answer to the question but if you don't get a response here you will surely get some more eyes on it if you post in the '73-'77 A-body Tech Section, which includes the Can-Am. Someone there will know.

Nice Looking GP! Is that a 50 year anniversary edition?

If I remember correctly the center hub just pulls off with a little effort. But it has been 40 years or so sense I pulled one off.

An exploded diagram is attached.

After carefully removing out the center ornament, you'll see the retaining nut (and lock clip, if it's still there) on the column. Remove the nut and the hub assembly (including the horn contact) will lift out. You'll then need a hub puller to remove the steering wheel from the column.

Thanks for the help!! It's not an anniversary car but I've added all the bits to make it a clone. It's a 77 with the 76 header panel, taillights and 455 from the 76 donor car. I'm happy with how it turned out.
