Default Engine Stick in Car!

Hello everyone, I am a novice mechanic having some issues installing some RAR ram air manifolds .

I removed the log manifolds without any hassle. I then loosened the bolts to the trans crossmember and removed the bolts through the engine mounts. Then I slowly began lifting the engine out with a hoist, and all that happened was I lifted the front end of the car about 6”.

The only thing I can think of is that the engine mount rubber might be stuck, but it can’t be that stuck that it would lift the front of the car up, could it? Or, perhaps there is a lot of travel in the suspension and I need to keep lifting?

I only need to lift the engine out a few inches so I can slide the manifolds in. Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

I just realized the title says “Stick” instead of “Stuck”
Don’t mind my big thumbs :P

The engine side "ears" on the mounts can bend when tightened. Try a pry bar in there. Check your clutch linkage or back drive isnt binding . Good luck!

He's right, pickup just a little, say an inch or so and take a long screwdriver or pry bar and pry the motor mounts apart. If you don't keep picking it up the car will suddenly drop out and you will probably bust your distributor cap against the firewall ...or worse! It'll come up if you give it a little help. It may be easier to just roll 1 side up at a time. That should give you more clearance than just picking straight up, plus it helps you get right back in the motor mount when you are done on that side.

honestly, you should be able to 'weasle' the manifolds in place with the engine still bolted up;

iirc I have had to install the (slightly bigger casted version for the) 68-69 GTO RA manifold on my Firebird - on the drivers side (the harder side) no less;

I had to drop the starter, and it wasn't easy, but it was possible if you started at just the right angle, and curled your tongue just right...
