Man, those oversprays are awesome. Great work. The wheel well black out looks great too.

Keep the pics coming!

Oh, and congratulations on getting some Texas BBQ at Jim Robertson's shop. The last time I visited, he had me help him haul cast iron heads all day long to their new machine shop location... But to be honest, he did feed us too

Steve does great work, but wouldn't the wheel blackout not have any red oxide primer on it?
(looks like it was sprayed black 1st then red oxide sprayed over the underframe)

Car is looking fantastic though!

On a 70 I know the bracket that hold the black rubber bumper was on the car when it got painted and should have overspray on it.

the axle bump stops should be on there too. those where on before red oxide dip, they also had quite a bit of body color overspray. The wheel houses should show more blue then red oxide since the body was painted before the wheel house shutz

John, I'm not sure I follow what you are trying to say. The red oxide was on the body before the blackout treatment was done in the wheel housing. This is how Steve did it also.

Thanks F400. The bump stops can still be painted up before being put on the car. Chuck, are these what you are talking about in your comments about the 70's?

The nice thing about these restorations is that you can go heavy or light on these details. I tend to make these details less about globbing it on and more about showing the contrast. Not like the guy assembling this car was perfect, just that he was a little more careful with this car than the other ones he built that day.

Must just be the way it looks on my computer.

In this pic it appears to have red oxide overspray on the edge of the wheel well by the frame.

I guess it is probably not sprayed all the way on the wheel well primer?
(would think the guy spraying the black was not really interested in keeping it off the frame rail)

Mine had the black overspray on the frame, then some color overspray on it.

I think it's true if the overspray was shot in the areas of the axle bumpers then yes they would have blue on them too, but the original overspray was quite random depending on the angle if the gun and it looks like Steve hasn't taken the overspray high enough to be in those areas. Another way to say it, since there's no overspray on the frame rail there, there won't be any on the bracket. Same for the inner wheelhouse too.

I've also noticed the bottom of the lower rockers are often orange, missing color all together. That's one I just can't see replicating

Agreed - have seen a ton of variation in amount of overspray on the underbody, amount of undercoat in the wheel houses, etc.

Ok... here are some long overdue updates on Lucy. We were trying to get the car completed before the POCI convention last month, but timing just didn't work out. Steve says it will be finished in time for the TA Nationals at the end of August though!

Here are engine pics when I picked up the motor at Jim Robertson's shop:

Subframe installed:

Someday I'm going to use a set myself...

Tim, the rest is looking GREAT, can't wait to see it. Hope Steve gets it done in time. Looks like another Trophy car to me.

Thanks Craig! It'll sure have a trophy shaker on it!! Steve is confident it'll get finished in time.

I have to run now, but will post up pics from my visit last week. My son and I were in town with our Judge for the AACA meet and got to spend some time with Steve and his lovely wife while we were there... S&B, Thanks again for the pizza!

Cheers,
Tim

Looking good Tim and cant wait to see it. The paint work on those heads is a little different, Is that to replicate paint burn off?

Thanks Brew. We redid the engine paint after getting the engine over to Steve's shop. The color just wasn't quite right. Ended up using Scott Tieman's paint for it. I think Greg had requested that the heads be painted that way to replicate burn-off, but I didn't choose to go that way when we repainted.

Engine, AC box and brake booster are all installed. Brake booster is an awesome piece that I got from Steve Gregorio. It's date coded correct for the car and has the correct part number stamped for a 72 TA.

Steve's guys need to put my NOS fuel pump on the motor still.

Other comments about correctness are welcome! Bring em on:
