nice work on the frame and rear end
But every one Ive seen was covered with a mist coat of blackout.
Theres even a detail in the assembly manual showing not to paint the blackout
on the face of the brake drum.
this does look impressive tho

You are 100% correct
From what I have read that after the cars were built
One of the last things they did was reach under the car
With a long paint wand and spray the underside of the car with flat black. I actually saw a photo of this online someplace.
But as you can see I tend to over restore and detail just for the “wow” factor.

tho not an A body I have a Firebird that was undercoated when new with a paraffin based product that looked like gummy beeswax.
I took the car to a Rusty Jones franchise and asked how to get the stuff off.The manager looked at me sideways and said no one had ever asked that before. In my case mineral spirits got it off and everything looks like day 2.Paint dabs on brake drum,rear end housing,crayon marking on gas tank etc.

I'm just taking the first bite out of my '66 elephant (one bite at a time) and am wondering about a few things. What's missing and that sort of thing.

I am sick! I don’t know if you read in an earlier post but I took about 300 photos with my digital camera and when I went to download everything to my laptop it says the file is corrupt and I cannot recover anything. I had so many good detailed photos as well. Nothing I can do about it now unfortunately.

Now that you mention it I do remember reading that..too bad!
One thing that comes to mind is what fills the open space between the lower front edge of the front inner wheel house and the front bumper filler under the headlights. I know it's some type of splash shield but I don't know what it looks like.

This is what I assume you were referring to
These are the parts that attach to the front of the inner wheel house and front fenders
If you have a factory AC car like I do then the rubber baffles would be attached too as shown on the photos

Yeah, I think that's what I'm talking about. I say it that way because they've got such weird angles it's hard to tell exactly what they look like mounted and mine are MIA.
Ames has some splash guards listed but I think they just include the soft parts and not the metal mounting parts. There is a drawing in the shop manual that I'll take another look at now that I've seen photos. Between the pics and the drawing I may figure out what is missing exactly.

Sorry to keep interrupting but one last question about this shield thing. Ames and Goodmark lists this as only for 1967.
I'm wondering if that may be just because of the grille support. The rest looks like it would be the same for 1966.
That's my question, will it or won't it fit?
