'66 sheetmetal question
Ames and Goodmark sell this sheetmetal filler kit and both say it's 1967 only.
It looks to me like most of it would be the same for the '66 models except for the one piece referred to as the lower grille support. The only parts I really need are the two splash guards lower center in the photo. I think I need them anyway? 2nd pic is what I have now. Has anyone used this for a '66? Might have answered my own question. I pulled the fender extensions off of mine and they're different than those pictured so probably all of it is different.

Greg, I think I may have extra splash shields. They would be the same for 66-67. fender extensions are different. I might have one of those as well, at least I used to. I will check tonight.

Thanks Steve. Take your time. I'm just starting to nibble on this elephant.
The left extension in the picture is the better of the two that I have. The other is pitted pretty badly but repairable in a pinch. Main need is the shields since they are missing altogether.

I have the '66 Chassis Shop Manual and the '66 Fisher Body Manual. I've looked with no luck but asking, is there a factory Assembly Manual for '66 or '67 Tempest?

I just noticed this and had to straighten it up for the record. I found out in another thread after posting here that I'm not missing the shields. The rust colored piece in the photo is the shield. The missing piece is the rubber splash guard that came in AC cars and attaches to that shield.

Took a look at a donor fender that I pulled out of the junkyard a decade ago and look what was on it. Wish I had the other one as my original on the other side needs patching.

Greg,
I didn't know if you are still looking for the splash shields but I found these in my garage. I pulled them off a '66 many years ago. One side is in pretty good shape, the other one needs a little hammer & dolly work. Let me know if you need them.

Good week for the '66 project.
In an incredible display of generosity Steven is supplying the splash shields pictured above 'gratis'. Thank you Steven! Then I wake up this morning and strictly on impulse I decided to look on Facebook, where I've never bought a part and found something I was going to buy from somebody at some point. Typically $250.00 to $299.00 plus oversized shipping charges could have potentially brought it to nearly $400. I got this unused tail panel for $125 and it was local. SCORE! Now, there's much more going with this car's quarter panels .... Long story short, previous body guy cut away the lower portion of the original quarters and hung the new quarter skins on TOP of the upper portion of the originals. It also overlaps the tail panel and the door opening. Everything was then expertly leveled with a quarter inch of filler. Nothing fits right because the entire upper quarter is one big overlap! Plus, the left quarter and tail panel were pushed in before the skins were replaced. Did body guy straighten the quarter before attaching the new skin? Nope. Just conformed the new skin to the pushed in tail panel...trim doesn't have a chance of fitting. The straight tail panel is going to be a big help in correcting everything. Last pic below is looking down on the ds quarter at the sail panel. Rusty metal is the quarter skin where it's overlapping. Going to be some work... Red line is where I plan to cut through the stacked skin and the original underneath. I'll toss the overlap and butt weld. Sent from my moto g stylus (2021) using Tapatalk

Again, incredible generosity RedDR. Thank you but I wouldn't think of it.... however, I DO love a bargain! And I've received more help and knowledge here than I can recount or repay.
As for what I need, interior door panels, headliner, carpet, any color but I'm thinking of a color change with black interior. I've had success dying interior stuff before. DS inner fender, could use a better header panel but it's workable. Shipping is the problem for that kind of stuff when you buy from classifieds. I've been collecting parts for this car for years so don't need much more than what I just mentioned. As for the mechanical stuff, mostly brake upgrade and front suspension needs a rebuild.. I don't mind keeping the front drums but I would prefer a dual master at least so I don't know what that involves yet. Still in the planning stages really. Just nibbling the elephant.

I've taken things to the post office lately to get a shipping price for someone and never hear from them again. Shipping is definitely steep now for anything with any size and/or weight to it. Makes it tough to buy or sell. I sent a 10lb box just large enough for a Holley carb and it was $32.
I've heard things about Fastenal. There's one not far from me. I think I'll call and talk to them about their shipping service. I think the deal is that you can have something shipped to their location for pickup. Kind of like Greyhound. I did use Greyhound once years ago to ship an entire upper and lower back seat. It worked out well.

If anyone has parts for Greg in need of blasting or acid cleaning for rust removal, I'm willing to clean those parts, epoxy prime them and ship them to Greg.
