Default 1970 Trim Tag letter A

In looking over 1970 Norwood trim tags, occasionally I've seen a letter marked on the line where the model code is stamped.

For example:
W66 A

There is a gap between the end of the model code and the additional letter.

It's been found on Norwood T/As and Formulas. I can't recall seeing this mark on an Esprit or base.

What does the 'A' signify?
Were other characters besides 'A' stamped in this position?

Never noticed that. Looked through some pics I have and I have one with the A. (a TA)

What is the date codes on the tags you have with the A?
Mine is 04C

Hi John,
My 04C Norwood Formula has an A.
I found a few more cars, Formulas and TAs with that mark.

I'm at the beach. When I get back home I'll find the date codes of the others.

My 04D '70 Norwood Formula doesn't have the "A" (RAIII/TH400/3.55 STT if that makes any difference).

Bruce, your pic is a '4'? (WS4)

Mike's 07E kind of makes my 04x and older theory wrong.

Another thought is maybe it's like the 1969 Birds with the AEE on some tags? (for roof molding I think)

Not all of them had it stamped.

Maybe this is an abbreviated AEE? (just A)

Did also notice that some of those tags had a forward slash between the 70 and 22337.

You might be onto something there John...mine doesn't have roof gutters/molding.

I junked a rusty T1970 T/A that was somewhat of an oddity. The date on the cowl tag was 07A, the engine was dated March, but there was no VIN stamped into the block. It was automatic, no a/c, white with deluxe blue interior. It did not have the A.

Yes, its a T/A.. WS4 Also has a "0" ( 1970) in the firewall Vin, vs a "9" ( 1969) like all I have seen prior to May
Also its a white car with "Parchment" interior... I have not seen the interior, but will be interesting to see when this car gets finished.

Here is a photo of the cowl tag of the junked 70. I have a 70 column shift car that was a late build, but I don't have a photo of the cowl tag.

It seems like 'A' stamped on that line referred to the power window option?

John

Thanks, John!
Now you said that, some later years (I think) used 'A' for power windows.
I'll have to check some notes.

Edit:
1977 (and up?) used A31 for power windows, A51 for bucket seats

The PHS' on the ones with the letter 'A' do have power windows.
Have to see if HFR has PHS/windowsticker for his cowltag. (I have nothing on it)

I had some PHS' with roof molding but no 'A'.

So a better fit for the PW.

CPU, do you have PHS or knowledge if PW on your examples?

Is this "A" coding for power windows is true for '71 also, wasn't coded that way for Van Nuys production. Could be a NOR thing only.
