Default 72-73 Throttle Cable Question

I'm looking to buy one of these for a 4bbl car. Can anyone that has one out take a few measurements? It would help me a heck of a lot trying to identify the correct one.

The main question is the total length of your cable end-to-end? I don't have that question in my pic.

Then attached in the pic are a few other questions I have. The length of the black tube I'm finding a little variance so I'd like to get a few more numbers. I'm thinking the factory had it at about 11.5 inch give or take 1/4 inch but more numbers would be helpful. My guess is with that tube variance they relied on the total fixed length of the cable.

Any help you guys have would be greatly appreciated even if you can't answer all the questions. One friend used a string to measure the black tube on the car for an accurate measurement.

I ended up using a cable from Napa that I ordered per application, but the firewall end was not square, it was rectangle, and I shaved it to use it. You cant tell. If I can find that info Ill post it here. the parts place used to sell one, but as I recall it was not correct.

Yeah. There is a repro and it's short. It's listed as correct for two more years than just 72/73. I think once I get a few more accurate measurement of the total length of the cable I should be able to make a correct looking one out of some cores I have that are very close in everything but the total length. But the more info I get on the details the better I'll get in my final outcome so more measurement are always welcome! Thanks for the bump, Bruce!

The Parts Place one is wrong. Theirs is marketed for something like 70-74 Birds where the cable is a 72/73 only part. There's is too short as well.

Gee, I can't remember how many times I've overheard ladies ask that question in a bar.

Have several used '72-73 4 bbl cables in a parts tub of nothing but cables. Have a good sized list to get completed before tomorrow PM. Should be able to dig the tub out later this week when stuck inside with ice & snow pounding us. Will take measurements.

That would be fantastic!

Don't be afraid to PM me too if you find one you want to sell or trade if you're looking for something.

BUMPing to see if any of you guys have had a chance to look through your stuff yet. I'm especially looking for the End-to-End length. That long black tube length would be helpful too, but I'm good on the rest of my questions.

Member transam1972 did me a huge favor and sent me his NOS unit to look at and it's been an incredible help and he's a terrific guy so big thanks Glenn! Since he doesn't have the part number I'd still like to confirm that total length with at least a couple more members.

Thanks Bruce. It's that 616 I'm after. Figures it's like the 666 beast and tough to get a bead on.

Anyone with that total length? Anyone?

The Judge is in the room. Yeah, measuring installed is fine too. Especially in -2 weather. If possible just a measurement of the black tube to the grommets will give me what I need and a piece of string works well to get it.

Okay, well this is turning into the Tale of Two Throttle Cables.

So it boils down for me to getting a good total length of a known 72/73 4bbl Cable and I think I can make my own repro from there.

I have two sources of conflicting info on the total, end-to-end length of these cables. An eBay seller had an NOS part# 545616 that measured in at 24.25in.

I also have in my custody by the more than generous and illustrious member Transam1972 a cable he bought as NOS 20 years ago that measures 22.5 inches.

If someone can confirm the markings are correct for a 545616 or has any other way of IDing it that would be phenomenal. There is a tag with an "SP" that may translate to something. The other NOS one had a "PD" on it and a friend with a '73 has a "PB" on his. Of course if you have on out of car that I can get an end-to-end on that would be excellent!

I went out in the garage to find the cable but it's only about -3 deg's out right now & it wasn't in the spot I thought it was so the next time I'm out & have the heat on I'll look for it a bit more in the warm & get back to you on the total length . I do know the one I had did have an off white end (carb end) on it. The cable is black along with the square pieces that hold it in place.

Hey Rex, that would be a giant help! If possible could you also measure the part of the cable that extends past the bottom grommet that attaches to the gas pedal? I just thought of another method that may make making one of these easier.

Also, if you'd consider selling please PM me too.
