This be done the Maaco deal probably 10-15 times. Go to different locations (they are all franchises) and talk with the owner. I found one that was a car guy and we did several cars together that I would put in the very nice driver category. I stripped the car, expected overspray in the wheel wells, etc and that I would have to clean up most of the car. Paint jobs usually ran 5-6k.

This car was painted at that shop:

That was supposed to say ‘I’ve done the Maaco deal 10-15 times’

I'm no painter, but learned to do body work and spray decent. If you have the patience it's worth it. I've sprayed three of my classic vehicles and I got as good as a job as I could expect from a good paid shop. Plus, you don't have to worry as much about your high dollar paint job getting rock chips from driving it. But, I still do!! I'm ready to spray my Lemans convertible with Lamborghini orange paint. It's $300 a quart! A gallon of my past paint didn't cost that much. But, I'm still saving from having someone else do it. Plus, I can boast that I did it!

Got 3 recent quotes for my convertible...

$20k Custom Classics
$8k twice (shop & pro on the side)

Around here is $55 + per hour labor but the $20k job was around $75 I think. Not spending $20k on a car appraised ar $32k, stupid. After paint what's the possible additional value, now $40k?? Anyone going to really offer $40k for a really sweet 69 Convertible GTO, I doubt it.

Default Time and money.

My last two "Paint Jobs" resulted in a beautiful result!!!
They turned out much better than I expected. ( I'm picky)

BUT they both took much longer and cost more than I was ready for.

Watch out for you car sitting for weeks without progress!!!

An estimate is just that. Expect cost overruns and **** happening.

Beware of getting sick and tired of growing old waiting for your car to be done.

That is like blood in the water for a few types to grab your wallet.

My two cents. Good luck. 🍀

Had an old friend stop in and visit tonight .. I worked in his body shop for a couple of years back in the 80's. The guy is a complete lunatic, spent about 7 years in prison on and off for drugs, 64 now and dying of cancer .... although he's been telling me that for 20 years. But this guy can paint a car like nobody's business ... just a tremendous body man and painter .... gave me his card ... "Krazy Bob's Auto Painting" ... hehehe ... I told him to hold on another two years so he can't paint my car.
He's a dying breed ... literally.
