Default 1967 GTO Convertible decision

Its to late to undecide to do this car. Anyway, I am replacing the top of the rear of the car. At least most of it. Including the rear deck filler panel, the top of the quarter panels, braces, hood hingers, the whole shebang. Anyway, how would you all weld the part to the quarter panels. Would you flange weld using the existing ridge line, there by welding on the top of the quarter panel, or cut off the ridge line and use the ridge line on the part I am installing there by welding on side of the quarter panel. I think any minor flaws would be easier to detect along the side of the car as compared to the top part along the ridge line. Well abut an inch from the ridge line towards the trunk area. I know, this car was definitely headed to the crusher. The new part is going from the door jams to about 6 inches past the beginning of the curve of the trunk lid .
