Default tightening shifter linkage to my 4 speed

When tightening the linkage to the tranny the 3 arms ( call them pawls) are tightened by 3/8" nuts. If one tightens them the shifter action becomes tight so they need to be on the loose side. In order to prevent the nuts from loosening I'm thinking of putting some blue loctite on the threads. Is that a good idea or is there something I'm missing or doing wrong ? Thanks for the advice, Mike.

What trans? What vehicle?

Are the arms and the pieces they attach to in good condition--no bends, no burrs?

Something does not sound like it is setup correctly. Can you post up some pictures.

Are these the levers (on the side of the transmission itself) that go on the ends of the shift forks?

Normally, these levers are tight enough so that the lock washers used are crushed flat. They need to be TIGHT. If you are having issues with them being tight, something is wrong, possibly inside the cover....if indeed I understand what you are trying to explain. Are the levers hard to move back and forth manually with NO linkage installed? If so, it's a problem with the cover or fasteners.

Yes. ST-10, Hurst comp plus shifter. I have no lock washers on them. Perhaps that is the problem?

bolt ... lock washer ... washer ... lever ... onto the shifter fork boss

if your shifter gets tight when this bolt is tight
is the lever hitting the side cover ?

the back side of the lever may be beat up ??

If your taking about shift arms to shift levers you need new bushings.

Good point, one lever is missing the bushing in the photo. There are plastic ones and steel ones.

The pic is a bit deceptive. I assure you the shift levers all have the steel bushings installed. Scott has a good point regarding the thin washers on the clip side. I'll put some AN washers on the 3 levers. Thanks, Mike
