65 Gto with 66 Tri-power. Rad. Hose.
I have a 65 with original radiator and 66 Tri-power. The 65 tri-power hose is about an inch too short to push all the way down on the 66 thermostat housing neck.
I've learned I'm not very good at angles and dangles. My question is could I use a 66 Tri-power hose ? I know the 66 hose is designed for drivers side outlet. Could the extra length be cut to size and used on my 65 radiator ?? Has anyone else done this ? Or would it end up pointing in the wrong direction ? Thanks. |

The 1964 Thermostat Housing points toward the Passenger side of the vehicle.
The 1965 Thermostat Housing points straight up. The 1966 Thermostat Housing points toward the Drivers side of the vehicle. With either the 64 hose or the 66 hose you need a 90 degree rubber elbow that fits the 65 Thermostat Housing and a short piece of metal tubing that matches the 64/66 hoses and the elbow. And the hose clamps to hook it all up properly. I realize that you need to mod things. I replaced the 64 Radiator on my 64 GTO with a Racing Circle Track (High Fin Count per inch 4 core+ unit) Radiator but was able to just install a 1966 Thermostat Housing and Hose. Tom V.

Buy a good used or reproduction ‘65 thermostat housing along with the correct upper hose.
Problem solved. If your radiator needs replacing then buy a ‘66 radiator and use the ‘66 thermostat housing and upper hose.
