Default Butler Facebook feature (first post)

Thought this Butler feature would be a good first to show you guys what I'm working with ....my goal is 650-700 hp ....so I'm figuring out my head choices to get there...what do you recommend? What should I know before I buy or little things I should do first....Also was thinking of a custom cam grind and wanted suggestions for that as well....thanks everyone nice to meet ya

Do you have a block now?

I'd go with ported high ports but other heads would get you there.

A 461 with a forged rotating , 340+cfm heads, Northwind/1000 cfm carb or Victor/Dominator and a solid roller cam similar in size to my race cam and you will be there. You will need billet 4 bolt caps if you use a stock block.

A member here built a stock block 4.5" stroker, with unported High Ports, Northwind, 1050 Dominator, and a solid roller. It made 755hp @ 5900 rpm, on E85.

Biggest concern with the high ports is they raise the intake manifold about an inch and make it nearly impossible to fit a good induction system under a factory F-body hood.

Is that your motor in the Butler facebook feature? Is it already built?

That sounds great might try to pull alittle more with a soild roller vs the hydraulic....what are the advantages of going that way?

I was worried about how to go about that with my shaker...I do have a drop base shaker from PTFB

The motor you see in the car is my current motor....first gen eheads with low compression pistons .....the motor we are discussing is the new 461 you see on the engine stand pic....the shortblock is completed on a stand waiting on the top end

The cam in mine is mild for a 461; 242/248@50 with 540/563 lift with 1.5 rockers. Likely the next cam, 248/254 would get you pretty close to your goals. Remember identical cams specs, with one being a hydraulic roller and one a solid, the solid has less effective lift and duration due to valve lash. Butler thought at 600hp the hydraulics were the way to go, I didn't argue. I was trying to have enough vacuum at idle to operate vacuum brakes, and the cam we selected, it is still marginal. (haven't install engine yet) More cam and power brakes need to evolve to hydraulic boosted set up off your power steering pump.

If you are going to do all forged stuff anyway, just build it to take a 200 shot and go with a cam that you don't have to run a vacuum pump with. That pump and pully is going to eat power all the time.

The shortblock is all completed and it is all forged ....it can take a 200 shot right now...so I'm good there....I already have the vacuum pump installed on my current motor in the car because of blowby.....

You run a vacuum pump on a daily driver? What are you rebuild intervals for the pump? This has been the one thing holding me back from doing this...

I wouldn't say it's a daily driver...but I drive it a few times a week with weather permitting....I have had it about 6 months and not that many miles on it but I haven't rebuilt it or needed to as of yet...I got it from butler....if you have any leak or blow by issue you won't any more with one of these
