Default What is this coolant port on my 73 TA?

I’m just finishing up the frame off resto on my 73 TA. I’m putting in a 455 I got from a Grand Prix while I save up the cash to get my numbers Matching 455 assembled. The 455 from the Grand Prix has a coolant port coming out of the block, on the passenger side, towards the back. I’m assuming this line would come up and T into one of the two regular lines?
Do I need it? Is this an “in” or and “out”? What is it’s purpose? Can I block it off?
Any help would be appreciated.

I really doubt that's factory-installed plumbing. If it's plumbed into the coolant jacket, whatever you use to cap it will have to be able to resist 15 to 20 psi of coolant pressure. Do you know what it's threaded into? You're better off installing a threaded pipe plug into the block.

I agree with the likelihood that's an aftermarket addition for a circulating type block heater device. As Rocky stated. remove that plumbing and plug at the block.

Is it plumbed into the block drain hole? That is the only water source near the oil filter adapter that I can think of.

The fitting on the end looks like a quick-disconnect so makes sense that it could have been for a block heater setup with a pump.

Just remove all that plumbing and put a pipe plug back into the block.
