Default Div 4 & 7

There are Lucas Oil Series races in Louisiana & AZ this week.

The div 4 race is at No Problem Raceway in Belle Rose, LA, starting Fri.

http://www.nhra.net/2020/flyers/D4/D...y_LODRS_20.pdf

There's a doubleheader at Tucson Dragway, starting Thurs.

http://www.nhra.net/2020/flyers/D7/D...y_LODRS_02.pdf

So far, the number of Pontiac Stock & SS entries are down from recent years.

Hope there are still lots of 'em in div 3.

Well ya'll, in Q-1 a Pontiac is #1. It's Rick Unterseh's 310T Bird. He was 1.334 under.

https://www.nhra.com/results/2020/lu...alifying-order

I'm not sure if that will get some NHRA hp added to his engine, or not.

I still don't quite understand the rules for that. At SOME races, you can go as quick as you want, without any penalty.

At SOME races, if you go 1.2 or more under you get hp.

If the conditions are what they call "mine shaft", there are no penalties.

This 1st race of the doubleheader is called a "National Open". The penalty may not apply at these races.

The 2nd race, which will be Sat & Sun, is a reg div 7 Lucas Oil Series race. So, the penalty may apply at that race, but not this 1st open race.

Would some of you guys who know how this all works, for sure, please try to explain it to us, in such a way that even I can understand it.

Besides Rick, John & Ryan Schloe are entered. John is #27 @ -.874, & Ryan is #37, @ -.774.

I assume that John is still racing his '69 Bird, with a D-port 400, & Ryan is racing his '71 Bird, with a D-port 455. But, I have no way of knowing, for sure. If any of you guys will be at this race, please inquire & let us know what they're running. Hey, some on the scene pics would be cool !

After 3 rounds of qualifying, Rick is still #1. Ryan moved up to #20 @ .950 under. John is #32.

https://www.nhra.com/results/2020/lu...ock-eliminator

I'm real interested in the Ryan Schloe car. It WAS running as a '71 Bird, with a #66 head 455 engine. I've read here where guys really badmouthed those #66 heads.

But, if his Stocker is still running those heads, maybe they're not as bad as some guys have said.

Of course, he could have made a few changes & could now be running as a '73 Bird, with a 4X head 455. That's what Adam Davis did several years ago. At Indy 2017, Adam ran 1.023 under, good enuff for #74.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCStory.asp?ID=331361

If anybody knows what heads Ryan is running today, please post that info.

OK, there are corrections to make.

DRC has now posted results for the AZ race. Apparently, the NHRA live timing site had some really bogus numbers.

Rick was NOT #1 qualifier. And, only one car ran 1.20 or more under, NOT 4 cars.

After all the changes, Ryan Schloe ended up as the top Pontiac qualifier. And it lists him driving a '73 Bird. So, he is running a 4X head 455 engine. Apparently he did run .950 under, which was good enuff for #18 position.

John was #32 & Rick was #33.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...er=30#indextop

I was curious & did some checking from previous races. Apparently the Schloes had made the needed changes & switched Ryan's Bird over to a '73 model, several years ago. I just didn't remember that. Don't know if the car has dipped into the 10's, or not. But, it has run some very low 11's. So, under current NHRA rules, a '73 4X head 455 Bird is definitely more competitive than a '71 #66 headed 455 Bird.

With a quick search, the best ET I could find was 11.04. So, if he hasn't dipped into the 10's yet, he's come real close.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCStory.asp?ID=349366

For today's race, I think they'll get one more qualifying pass, then elims will begin.

It looks like NHRA was late in updating their computer. When Rick was shown as #1 they had him in P/SA. They now have him in N/SA. This seem to be a problem that NHRA seem to have ever now and then so you need to watch those early lists.

The qualifying runs were scheduled to start at 9AM.

Looks like Drag Racer TV is having problems with the live feed from No Problem. They're now saying they have on internet at the track. So, the Drag Racer TV guy is supposed to record today's racing, then play it back tonight.

Well, the following info is on the live timing site. So, I don't know how reliable it is.

But, according to their info, C.W. Hoefer joined the Stock party for Q-4, this morning. He drives, or I assume he still drives, the yellow '73 4X head 455 Formy that Adam Davis had a few years back. It shows that Ryan Schloe ran a little quicker, @ .969 under.

https://www.nhra.com/results/2020/lu...ock-eliminator

C.W. is shown to be the only Pontiac powered car to survive E-1.

Another Pontiac joined the party in Bell Rose. Logan Galbraith came down from Indy, with his '74 GA, which is the former Don Turk car.

Logan is qualified #23 @ .980 under. Wayne Larsen is #36 @ .873 under, with his '77 Lemans. In my pics I still have the car listed under Jack Larsen. I assume the 2 are kin. Don't know who the car actually belongs to, now.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...UMMIT#indextop

For this post, I labeled the 2nd pic Wayne Larsen. But it still had Jack's div 3 numbers on it. Saw the car on the Drag Racer TV video, last night. It's definitely the same car, checkered flag paint job & all.

Just watched the 1st round of class elims. Logan & Wayne are both in the N/SA class. There were 3 cars in the class. Logan qualified quicker, so he got the bye, & ran an 11.95, which is more than a sec under. Wayne beat the other car. So, it'll be an all Pontiac final.

Don't think Wayne's car can run 11's. So unless Logan makes a mistake on the starting line, he should win class.

As expected, Logan picked up the N/SA class win. He ran an 11.943, on a 13.00 index.

Brad Burton joined the party, in both Stock & SS. So, for this Lucas Oil Series race, we have 5 Pontiac powered cars in Stock & 1 in SS. Ryan Schloe is #2 & C.W. Hoefer is #3. Some of the cars backed off quite a bit. I assume this is because the AHFS could be in effect, unless there are mine shaft conditions. Most racers don't wanna draw attention to their combination. If they get hp added, that means they have to add weight, & are less competitive for same-class heads-up runs.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...er=30#indextop

Brad is #18 on the SS Q-list.

After the dust cleared Sat, Logan Galbraith is #13 @ 1.042 under. Wayne Larsen is #44 @ .873 under.
