Allof a sudden, I'm having leaks on the #1 to #3 aluminum hardline.
The carbs were just rebuilt, the same fittings were reused. The same aluminum line leaked around the tubing. I replaced it with a new aluminum line - same, same A close look shows that these aluminum "flares" are not, IMO, flared in the truest sense. Even after putting fiared copper seals on the male side - it's tough to stop the weeping. My questions: Are aluminum hardlines the way to go? Are copper lines even available?

Are the lines double flared? If not make your own lines.

They are but not well done IMO. The open end (tip) of the male reverse flare rubs against the tubing and causes a step. The double flare on the female can't seal properly.
I know it sounds convoluted.... Where do you get your lines from?

I would contact Dick Boneske here on the forums.
He sold me a set of reproduction aluminum lines for my 1964 Tri-Power and they all sealed up nicely. Pretty sure he makes them up himself.

Where did you buy the lines? Have you inspected the brass female seats?
I sometimes have problems with aluminum lines, but not if they are made correctly and installed correctly. If the flare does not fit easily into the brass fitting, it has not been made correctly. I always put lubricant between the flare nut and the aluminum line to prevent twisting the line as it is tightened. Many times, a leak on the threaded carb inlet appears to be a flare leak. Check that carefully.

If the cone in the nipple or the end of the pipe (flare) is bad, you can place a copper or fiber washer of the appropriate size against the cone in the nipple before screwing the pipe in place.
And like Dick said, "put lubricant between the flare nut and the aluminum line to prevent twisting the line as it is tightened." A drop of engine oil will do fine. |

I'm going to look closely at the main fitting for a bad cone end.
I can see that the cone end is bottoming out on the inside of the tubing, forcing me to tighten the fitting harder. I'd rather not say where I bought the fitting. I'd like to get concensus from the gurus on where to get quality lines....... lol

The copper flared washers from John at pontiactripower. Work very well to stop leaks. Caution to never tighten to distort the flares or washers

I just got those washers and a new hard line from John. Took a little more tightening than I like to apply but problem solved.
Thanks to all that responded.
