Default "New Posts" issue

On occasion when I refresh New Posts only a few will show up. So posts I haven't yet gotten to will go away. Is this a forums thing or a settings thing on my side?

Windows 7 fully current. Internet Explorer also the most current.

Any ideas?

Thanks!
Chris

Chrome, eh? I don't like Chrome. IE and I are old buddies... We get along.

These are things I don't know a lot about. Are you sure it's a browser issue and Chrome solves it for me?

IE is still full of vulnerabilities, use Chrome or Firefox, they both now self update..

IE vs Chrome vs Firefox... It's a personal preference thing and I just prefer IE.

I'm just looking to find out if my issue is an IE settings thing, or my IE not working correctly, or if it's how I use the site, or if it's just how the site functions. I may just have to suffer.

How long does it wait before you get the new posts issue? I've found sometimes it will not consider me to have "read" the entire forum for a few hours if the session is still active, and other times if I go off for 30 minutes it will have marked the entire forum read and thus the new posts aren't always "new" anymore.

Ben M has it right.
The PY Forums uses cookie sessions to populate the New Posts list. When you start a new session, it will repopulate the New Posts list based on when your last session ended.
Logging out or leaving the Forums idol (ie. not clicking any links) for 30 minutes will end your session.

Does that make sense?
This should function the same on whichever browser you are using (unless you have session cookies disabled).

All browsers are not the same dude.
Most people that have malware problems run IE,that should tell you something.
From May but still applies.

Earlier this week, authorities across the globe were rushing to advise users to minimize or stop their use of Internet Explorer. Now that the flaw that prompted those warnings has been patched, should they take back their warnings?

Thxs for the clarification Steve. I've found the same with iOS and the New Posts and it relates to cookies.

How about a quick link that brings up all the posts made in the last 24 hours?

Thanks for the help!

Unfortunately it looks like Internet Explorer is blocking the dropdown menus in our red navigation bar. You should be seeing a Quick Links option in that red bar that allows you to choose a number of different options. One of those options is Today's Posts, which shows the Threads with new posts made in the last 24 hours. It also bolds the ones that were made since your last cookie session ended.

The Quick Links seem to be working in Firefox & Chrome. See my screenshot below.

I'll see if I can figure out what Internet Explorer is doing differently, but until then I added the Today's Posts link to the Red navigation bar.
or you can bookmark the following link to go directly to the Today's Posts list:

Try "Compatibility Mode" to see if that helps. Same problem at work and that's what we did to fix it.

Note: Despite the prior negative IE comments;
I've made no adjustments, tweaks, etc. to IE, this is the same as it's always appeared.

Chris, just logged in w IE and here's what it looks like on this end @ forum main-page bottom:

Just about the only thing that IE is good for is to download a different browser.

There are a few sites that I use for work that only seem to run properly on IE, but those are few and far between.

Firefox user here.
