thinking of changing from th350 to th400 in 1970 firebird - can i use my th350 crossmember. i see two holes in the frame where crossmember bolts, figured i would have to move it to rear hole a few inches back. are there any other changes i need to make other than swaping trans yoke. what rear tail shaft should i look for

If you cut off the pad for the transmission mount and weld it to the other side of the crossmember it becomes a TH400 crossmember.
Don't forget you'll need a TH400 or manual trans driveshaft. The length is different on a TH350. |

You will need a shorter driveshaft & 400 A/T yoke.

You heard it here first...
V8 '70 1/2 Bird with Turbo 350 uses the same length driveshaft as a '70 1/2 T/A with Turbo 400 transmission. Pontiac used a real long T-400 yoke to make up the length for '70 1/2 production. This long yoke was also used behind Turbo 400 equipped '70 SS Chevelles & early ('69-71) big block Chevy pickups. Turbo 400 "T/A" driveshafts for '71 were slightly lengthened & the med length T-400 yoke was used. Have original examples of these driveshafts & yokes & chased quite a few of the "long" T400 yokes.
