I've got paint on the rubber pieces that go behind the headlights on my 69 Firebird.

What's the safest, most effective way to get it off?

Thanks,

John

i used this organge thing. well its for like paint brush's. some spilled on my plastic stuff and i thought it messed it up and i wiped them down and it took off all the paint. um also alot of auto stores have plastic prep which takes all that off. so u can try something like that.

Got a dish washer??????
Depending on the type of rubber, and paint.
A simple hot water & pressure wash can take the paint off.
If you've got an electric dishwasher.
I'd suggest throwing the pieces in there first.
Set the cycle on hot.

Another advantage to this.
The majority of plastic and rubber products, have what is called a shape memory.
In essence once the piece has been made, and for some reason it is bent for a period of time.
Heat will eventually return the part to it's formed "memory" shape.
Very hot water works best.
Of course too much heat will melt the part, and set a new "memory"
Plus you'll have the added advantage of the cleanest parts in town

Depending on the type of rubber, I just use Lacquer thinner. The thicker and more dense the rubber, the better it works. I soak the rubber for about 20 seconds, then wipe off the paint. Any longer and it will deform the rubber until the lacquer thinner evaporates. This works great on you door, hood, and trunk bumpers. I wouldn't soak foam rubber like your weatherstrip or marker light gaskets. Just put some on a rag and wipe them off. Plus, lacquer thinner has a million more uses and is cheaper than buying a specialty product that won't be used much.

Well, as understanding and loving as my wife is, I can't get away with using the dishwasher, that's for sure!

I'll try a couple of the easier, less costly methods mentioned. I have two pieces to "fix" and I'll try a different method on each!

Thanks guys,

John
