I've decided to finally get around to replacing the heater core in my 78 T/A. I've got all the bolts off the wheel well. My question is how the heck does this thing come out, without taking the fender off? I messed with this thing for over an hour yesterday wiggling it back and forth, up and down! Is there a trick? I guess when they built this car, they said "screw it, nobody will be driving these in 20 years."

The heater core comes out of the inside of the car...under the dash...you have to take the black air box off. This is the reason for all of the rusted floor pans there. The fan motor I'll mention...which since your so close to having that fender off is behind the pass fender. Some people cut through the fender to NOT have to take it off...bad idea. If it aint never been changed...well think of it as a good time to do it. I got mine at AutoZone..surprise! And cheap. Good luck...at least yours is simple...try doing all the stuff that I am doing! 18rs and good luck!

THere is a filler plate on the front/bottom of the wheel well.. remove that..
then unbolt the bottom of the fender in the back. now you can gently pull out on the fender and start rolling out the wheel well. With that out you'll have great access to the heater hose connections and some of the air box bolts.
