I had a 72 blue 4spd, still had orig. polyglas spare & owner had all 4 stashed. My 71 I've got now has it's orig. polyglas spare. I've seen both, but more came w/polyglas.

I'm thinking Polyglas GT F60-15 but I've seen some "restored" '72 Trans Ams with Wide Ovals. Seems like there is a gray area with 1972 Birds.

Not sure if this helps, but the one I had back then, VIN 520001, had Goodyear Polyglas F60-15s.

Camaros and Firebird's were built on the same production lines, but it seems that back in the day I saw mostly Firestones on Z-28's and mostly PolyGlas GT's on T/A's.

Original tire size for Trans Ams and Formulas with Y99 suspension was F60-15. Having seen pictures of my dad's '72 when new, it was delivered with Goodyear Polyglas GT's. But Firestone Wide Ovals were another original tire. And the '72 catalog even shows General Scramblers.

My 72 TA was built 4/72 and has the original spare (never mounted on the car) which is a Firestone Wide Oval. I also have the build sheet which shows the tire code as: UDDL-5. You can still see the ink on the tread of the spare which is clearly UDDL. I have heard the factory used whichever manufacturer's tire that was in inventory at the time, and as stock ran out they used what was available next. (i.e.- Goodyear/Firestone)
