The base LG4 5.0L and L69 5.0L HO look very much a like. Under the hood, the only difference is that the LG4 has a belt driven cooling fan while the L69 has an electic cooling fan. They both have the functional Ram Air hood.

Everything had a 85 MPH speedometer in '84. It was federal law.

I don't think anyone would fake a 1984 trans am 305 HO. They're not THAT desirable. Also, an old lady was the original owner and the guy that owns it now is retired and doesn't know a whole lot about cars. Maybe it just didn't come with those options. I'll know more when I pick it up tomorrow!!

I'll agree with that, Certainly this looks like a good car and I am sure you will enjoy it, regardless of what sbc is in it, if you are so inclined there are so many performance parts out there that you can have this car running with the best of them.

Btw, my wife's alma matta is Central Michigan University and we always enjoy making the trip from Toronto back to Mount Pleasant through Midland! Next time we're through I wouldn't mind seeing your Dad's convertible and your new ride!

Looks like a very nice car.
I don't know about it being a HO car either.
The HO cars got the HO sticker on the hood scoop.
I don't see any on that car.
Can you see if there were some stickers on the hood scoop?

The WS6 suspension package was around long before 1984. It came out first in 1978 on the 2nd-gens and was carried over to the 3rd-gen in 1982. It went though many changes and improvements during the 3rd-gen's lifespan. The '84 15th Aniversary cars had a special WS6 package that was different than the production '84 WS6. It included sway bars that were 2mm larger than regular WS6, different spring rates and shock valving, and the 16x8 Hi-Tech aluminum rims. Most of it carried over to 1985 as an improved WS6 but the '84 15th Ani 25mm rear bar wasn't and is very hard to find today. The biggest the rear bar got for the rest of the 3rd-gen run was 24mm.

There are also some odd deviations of the WS6 to keep production going during parts shortages. The most well known is WS7 which included everything but with rear drum brakes. This is often seen on '82 model year cars because of a big shortage of the rear disc components that year. Priority went to Recaro and CrossFire equipped cars. Another seldom seen one is WY6 which included everything but with an open rear axle.
I stand corrected, I should have said "special" WS-6 my 15th 5 speed went like a mongoose!!and it had different casting heads vs the regular 305 cab engine, I remeber selling some off another one I had.

In '84 my brother in law that was parts manager at a Chevy dealer bought a new Z/28 with 5.0 H.O. It was an a/t with 3.42 gears, the 5 speed got 3.73's. That thing was a revver for it's day. It ran good and would easily turn 5800 rpm.
