Hello fellow wagon lover's! Sorry for my delay in responding here... it's been a busy couple of weeks with family in town, and helping out with Steve Barcak's Pontiac Heaven in Phoenix last weekend. And yes, my wagon was in attendance! I'd love to see a bunch of us together at a show somewhere along the way...

Anyway, the details of my wagon are as follows. It started life as a 67 base Tempest wagon (Cameo Ivory with black interior). I bought the car from a friend of mine about 10 years ago. He already had the GTO hood (with hood tach) on it at that time, but I've since added the following: GTO grills/park lights and emblems; front power disc brakes, and all new bushings and springs; 3.23 Posi; TH400; true dual exhaust, and a performer manifold with quadrajet. Also, I've replaced the floorboards, and installed GTO front buckets, also recovering the entire interior along the way.

For now, the original, stock 326 powers the car, but up next is a 428 with 670 heads (currently at the machine shop), probably a 200R4, and then some much needed body work. There's always something to do!

I also own a 67 GTO sedan, which is also white, but sporting turquoise interior and a 455/4 speed combo. The idea was much like Dave Anderson's... pull the GTO to the track on a trailer pulled by the "GTO Wagon." Someday, I still want to do that at least once!

I've attatched a couple pictures here for your viewing pleasure. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!

Todd

Mister Pontiac, are those cloth inserts in the original pattern? Do you have any photos of the cargo area?

Yes, those are cloth 'inserts' on the seats. It makes for a much more comfortable cruising environment, as my friends and family will attest to!

Technically, the original Tempest interior did not match a '67 GTO pattern, but I patterned it after a '67 GTO interior when I recovered the seats many years ago.

I haven't done anything to change the cargo area, and the car still retains its original rubber mat with jute backing. Again, remember this was a base Tempest wagon at birth, so the back half was never carpeted from the factory. For me, that's probably just as well since I use my wagon to haul things regularly. It's nice not having to worry about staining the carpet, although I'm very careful not to tear the rubber mat too!

Here are a couple pics of the cargo area...

Thumbs up

That cargo mat is in excellent shape. That cloth insert idea looks good. Mine was a Tempest Custom and it had a different pattern than the base Tempest or the Lemans/GTO. I redid mine in a GTO/Lemans pattern as well since I took these photos (I will have to get some new ones), but next time I may go with the cloth inserts as well. The strato bucket seats fit nice as well. When I used to do upholstery work, I installed a set of the older style '65 buckets in a '65 Tempest 4 door, along with a two speed auto shifter and console. Looked like it belonged there except for the steering column still had the place to mount the shifter handle, although the person removed it.

Default I have a wagon,too!

Hey eveyone this is Todd Spear. This is my first post on here in a while (previously used a different username), but when i saw this thread i knew it was appropriate to post. My dad and I have been fooling with this 66 for about as long as I've been around. I just purchased it from him and we are putting in a later model T/A shortblock with 10k miles, #62 heads, pretty big Lunati (hydraulic). It's morphed into a drag car/test bed over the years and I need to go ahead and atleast put powersteering and discs on it...

I'll try to upload pictures soon, or you can look me up on Facebook. I have some recent photos on there...

I'm only 17 by the way. I know it's not a typical teenagers ride, but I can't wait to dust off some of the momma and daddy bought sports cars and tuners that the rich kids have at school. Then I can take all their girlfriends in my shaggin wagon

Well heres what it looks like now... i need lifters and a shift kit and we'll put the motor and trans in. http://m.flickr.com/lightbox?id=6947566670

http://m.flickr.com/#/photos/7740108...n/photostream/ here it is not too long ago when we were dialing in 1967 GTO HO motor for a resto project. Its got red interior, so I'm contemplating what color to paint it. Probably shoot it in a fresh coat of epoxy primer... but I kinda want to paint it silver...

My mom drag raced a low 12 / high 11 second 64 Tempest wagon when i was alot younger. She used to piss off the local bracket racers, the car once ran three 12.05 passes in one night with the biggest gap of maybe .05 seconds. (my dad built and dialed it in, but she drove it and raced it for fun)

We had a big 62 Catalina wagon too, but that was a cruiser.

Hey Mister Pontiac, mine started out life as a white with red interior car... And your name is Todd, too! Hope I get to see your wagon at a show or somewhere.... It'd be super cool to have black and white GTO wagons parked next to eachother!

I want to see your 73 Safari. Do you happen to know the breakdown of production, auto vs manual?! If they even kept track of that in 73 Safari's?

Here was mine before I sold it to move up to a Bonneville.. I opted not for a GTO wagon, but simply a GOAT. It went up to the Seattle area.

Whats the best way to upload pictures in a post? I'll have to get on a computer and do it later, right now I'm on my iPod.

Goatwgn, I love the looks or yours. That interior looks great too. Hope you can get up here with it for PY's show this year. Wanna trade? LOL

Actully I love the looks of all of them you guys have shown. Always thought about doing it myself. Maybe some day.

This thread should be made a Sticky. Maybe even moved and made a Sticky in it's own Tech forum section for 63 to 72.

Thanks. I like the look of yours as well. Something about a '66 Pontiac in red... I do hope to get up there this year. Seems like everytime I want to do something or go somewhere I enjoy, something comes up. Usually caused by either work, home or other people.

Keep in touch. I plan on being there, but like you I don't know what will overrule my plans on going.

Question GTO Wagon

A few years back, a semi loaded w/cars came through town. On board was a stunningly beautiful black '65 wagon with metal in the long window panel and a gold emblem (copied from a vinly album?) that said: "GTO speedwagon". No pictures as I was driving by going to work. Anyone ever see it at a car show?
