My sister owns a '77 Firebird she purchased new. It has a 350 CID engine. From time to time she has to specify that the engine is an Oldsmobile in order to get the correct part. Did Pontiac purchase engines from Oldsmobile in '77?

hmm..i read somewhere that in 77 there were 3 engines you could have, which were the 185hp pontiac, the 6.6 pontiac 200hp(i have this 1 in my 77 ), and then the 403 olds 185hp. Never thought there would be an olds 350 in a pontiac, even though i have heard of sbc in them..oh wellz maybe some 1 smarter can tell you a better answere..good luck

The 77 model year could have come from the factory with a few different motors for which the code will appear as the fifth digit in the VIN: a Buick 231 - code C in vin, a Pontiac 301 - code Y in vin, a Chevy 350 - code L, an Oldsmobile 350 - code R, a Pontiac 400 - code Z, or an Oldsmobile 403 - code K.
