Question '70 455 in '81 T/A

I am dropping a 70 455 into my 81 TA and I'm not sure what frame and motor mounts I need. When I bought the TA a few years go, the owner had removed the original engine and installed a Chevy 350. I yanked the 350 and removed the frame mounts and am staring from scratch. Would a frame/motor mount setup from a early 70s 455 TA work or do I need parts from different years? I can't seem to get a definitive answer on this. I don't want to buy unneeded parts just to experiment to see what works. Thanks

The frame and motor mounts for my 81 Turbo 301 bolted right up to a regular 400 motor. They look identical to the ones om the 455 I have in my 78 TA.

I think that the mounts for any 2nd gen will work for you. Does this T/A have t-tops?? If it does you are opening another can of worms right there. Even without the t-tops I recomend Sub Frame Connecters but with the t-tops they are a must as you will be running the chance of twisting the car if you do not. Im not entirly sure but you may want to take a look at your frount suspention as well, if it only had the 301 in it originally then it may be a lil bit light for a 455.

My 301 engine mount brackets worked fine when I swapped a 455 into my 81 TA. These brackets are pretty easy to find , here is a set on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=8006035220
.
I recall reading the brackets from 75-81 are different from the 70-74 engine mount brackets. The ebay listing has these as 75-81 brackets. My 81 TA had the WS6 suspension and sat nice with the 455. I had t-tops and wrinkled the b pillar. I would recommend frame connectors with t-tops because if you hook up it might buckle/wrinkle a bit by b pillar.

Thanks for the posts. This TA came with a 305 not the 301. Any differences?

Yah, the 301 was a Poncho mill where the 305 is a chevy. Different mounts for sure, and if I remember correctly the mounts on your sub frames is different as well, You may have to do some changing to the mounts on the frames. If I get out to my shop in the next day or so I will take a look at the different mounts between them as my truck has a 350 and my Bird has a 455. it may be a to get it in but I think that you will be pleased with the rewards when you are done.

opps, I did not realize you had a small block chev 305 in there. Pretty sure small blocks had different engine mount brackets and different shell/mounts that bolted to the subframe; therefore, you will need the engine mount brackets for 75-81 TAs as posted above. And you will need the shells/mounts (see attached pics)...I am not sure if shells/mounts are for 75-81 or 70-81...either way, they are still available aftermarket...though quality can sometimes vary (as with all aftermarket parts).
