The 12 bolt you seek is a one year (1970) only.....shared with Camero & I believe the codes are the same....COZ is 3:73 Safe-T-track if I remember right...

They were actually made in Canada by McKinnon Industries.I believe....

Your invoice does NOT list the Ram Air engine option (code 348 $168.51) so your car was orinally built the base YS code 400 and a dual snorkel air cleaner with CLOSED hood scoops...

The 70 Formula hoods were slightly different than the 71-75's....

The late ones had a steel strap riveted to the underside along the fender edge (on both sides) for re-inforcement as warping was a BIG issue fron engine heat..

My hood has those strips riveted to the underside. I take it that this hood belongs to a different model. Strange, I can see gold paint under the vents on the hood, too. I think that this car is a prime candidate to be built how I want it to be. I do like the idea of going gold with black interior.

Perhaps it was changed due to collision damage?

That MAY explain the one later fender.....

Ah, yeah. That could be what happened. 2Many, do you, or know of anyone (or anyone else on here) that has a useable right fender for a 70-72 Firebird Formula?

Wait,we aren't done yet...........you need to check your rad support for damage below the top plate, behind the marker light....

Also,1970 rad supports are slightly different than 71-72.....

Been a busy past couple of days. Found a 12 bolt in great condition. Replaced the lug studs and axel seals and all new leaf spring bushings.

Actually, there is one other guy here locally that has one. I didn't go look at it because the one I have now was all complete and a decent deal. I can check on it if you like, find out more info, if its still available.

Update. I knew where there was a 70 firebird esprit sitting. I found it like 5+ years ago. The old story was "I'm going to restore it one day" so the guy didn't want to sell it. I kept checking in on it from time to time and still no avail.
Well, yesterday I stopped by again and the guy was a little more friendly this time. We talked about the car and his wishes and my wishes for it. My wishes are the wishes I have planned for my 70 Formula. He was on the fence about selling it until I pulled out some cash. When he seen the cash he said "that's good enough" and went into his house to get me the title.
Long day today! I went up there today with the trailer and brought it home. It now sits next to my Formula in the garage.
Sadly this Esprit is so rusty that it's to much work to make good again. However, it does have the good right fender I need, also, I needed the right door (found out that my original one had been crushed in the lower door jam section.) I also need the sub frame out of it, grills, front bumper, seat belt holders, 14" rally 2 wheels and some other parts.
To bad this guy didn't sell it to me 3 weeks ago when I was there. Now I have another original 12 bolt under this parts car.
I will be posting up some pictures of it in the next day or two.

Here are some pictures of the rusty Esprit. I can't figure out why someone would destroy a steering column so bad that they had to use vise grips to steer the car. Strange.

Looks like the same monkey was working on the trunk lock,as well....

If the original engine is still there,it SHOULD be a 400....

2many, did the esprit come with the 400? The guy I bought it from said it is a 400 with high performance 455 heads on it. That guy was saying "you got a killer deal on this car because the engine has a lot of good performance parts on it. I will snap a couple of pics of the block and head numbers.

Ah Yes. the 670's. It's amazing how many of those are still around considering how much they have been beat on since 67.

The 350 was standard on the Esprit, but if it has a 12 bolt rear it came with a 400 2 bbl as original.
(all Firebirds in 1970 that had a 400 engine came with the 12 bolt rear end)

Thank you for the replies. The guy I bought this from told me it wasn't the original engine. I wonder what this code is all about C244357.

That's the Engine Unit Number.

I keep track of them:

EUN Search

EUN Submission form

The last one explains some about it.

BTW, the 'C' is actually a zero that was chipped on the stamp
