Default 73 Formula 350 WIW

I'm looking at this car later today. Its a mostly original 73 Formula 350 auto green on tan deluxe interior. Supposedly the rear quarters are mostly solid, the rockers are good, and the previous owner did new rear rails and a trunk pan. Says the tail panel is solid. It doesn't run. It comes with two extra rust free doors and a good fender. It has most of its original paperwork also. The back window is taped in so it doesn't fall out, but the window channel is not rusted or rotted.

Its a 350 car. Could they come with a 4bbl? Also the rear bumper seems like it fits tighter to the body then 73 bumpers usually do, so I assume its an earlier one. Looks like it has the correct spoiler ends. The hood hinges are off the car, but I believe they're included. It has a steel lower valance.

What's a decent price for the car? I haven't really decided on what I'll do with it, but I'm interested in it for the right price.

73-74 Formula base engine was a 350 2bbl check vin would be a 2U87N. The next up would be a 400 2bbl vin P, next 400 4bbl T, 455 4bbl Y, and last SD-455 X. All formula's were duel exhaust and the trans was a 3spd manual standard.

Missing the correct dash bezel! Bummer, they are hard to find for 73-74 only non A/C cars. I like it a lot. Good color combo and non A/C to boot. Good luck with the purchase. I don't have a good barometer for value. What is he asking?

Hes asking $3500 for the car and the extra parts. I'm leaving now to look at it so I'll report back soon

Yeah, I was just thinkin that the value would depend on exactly what engine is in it, if it is rebuilable, and if it's numbers matching. If it's a non original 2bl 350 that somebody just just stuck a 4bl on and is not a real formula, I'd say you could not give over 1200-$1500 and hope to make a nice profit.

I'd say it's not rare enuff to be worth a full resto, UNLESS it was an SD 455. Would be a good prospect to build a Stock class racer out of. Might be best to sell as a parts car or to part it out yourself. A good posi rear would be worth a few bucks extra. Like most, some of the fingers are missing from the hood. Can't tell for sure, from the pics, looks like the center of the nose is skint up ? If not, the nose is worth a few bucks. There are lots of guys doing '70-'73 restos, who could use some of those parts. Or, if you can do most of the resto work yourself, and want this model, it might be worth more to you.

I've bought worse. But back then, they cost well under $500, sometimes running.

That is exactly the number that was in my head as I was reading this thread and looking at the pictures.

I would think by your description it should be worth around 3,000 especially being a Formula and has some extra parts also. Good luck looks like a nice car.

Car sucked. Whoever replaced the trunk did a terrible job, it was just tacked in and smeared with seam sealer. Someone replaced the passenger side quarter and put the new one on top of the old one with self tapping screws. Same with the rockers.

He was a pack rat. He had GTOs Chevelles Corvettes and Novas.

There was a red 69 Gto he claimed was a judge but someone replaced the vin with a regular Gto.

How could you tell by the VIN that it wasn't a Judge? Did you run the PHS? or do you mean that it had a LeMans or Tempest VIN?

He outright told me he switched tags with a more solid shell. I wouldn't doubt it after listening to him.

They were good, but I'd question how they were installed after seeing that trunk pan.

Too bad, a Brewster Green Formula would have been cool.

Yeah.

Now that I think of it I believe this was the same guy who was selling a 70 T/A last year along with a 70-72 Formula. I know the T/A was on Ebay and went through the shark tank here. It was a project, but everything that made it a 70 was missing.

I pictured it green on black with 17" HC's. Oh well

On the plus side I'm off to look at a 79 T/A tomorrow. Hopefully that'll be a better experience than the 73.

I tried to contact the seller on that one within hours of the ad coming out - no response.

If the guy who had it had a barn and was in southern NH I think I looked at his stuff, the 70 TA was in fact missing everything that made it a 70 TA(entire drive line, wheels, hood was junk, interior was a jumble mishmash) it was solid on the whole for a NE car. He spoke of number swaps and having tags from a bunch of rotboxes he could clone and was firm on the price so I walked (almost ran) the other way. Mark

The '73 is only about 50 minutes from me. I have a much better Formula though already.. Didnt look like much , wouldnt want to pay more than $2,000. IF the frame rails were installed correctly .

Yeah this was the guy. He was a real story teller. I also remember that T/A well. It was a total mess and everything that made it a 70 was gone. Didn't he also have a lime green formula?

Believe me, whoever buys this car will be redoing everything on it the previous owner did. For $1000 I'd probably buy it for parts, but anything more is just too much.
