Default Grit rating on wlanut shells vs glass beads

So why are glass beads listed as 70 grit and softer walnut shells 24 grit?

Just the grit size, not the hardness. Rub both on some soft steel or aluminum. The glass is harder and will scratch the metal. Walnut shells are softer and won't scratch most metals, doesn't matter how big the particles.

Bigger walnut shell particles will be more aggressive than smaller, however...like a bigger hammer. So what any media does is a combination of both hardness and grit size.

Here's a blurb that might help https://indigoblastingandpainting.co...sive-blasting/

Makes sense I always equate smaller number more aggressive at taking material off.

Lightbulb Organic versus Inorganic

Blasting material made from
organic material can vary in
density which can produce
varied results.

That is where material selection
and application can make
a big difference.

I would hire someone with
experience and references.
