Default Alternator Harness Routing

Does the alternator wiring route outboard of the valve cover or inboard of the valve cover? Are there any clips or retainers to keep it elevated from the hot surfaces? This is for a '69 Firebird, 350. Thanks!

Default harness

as you can see I left it/returned it to the same position it was in when I got the car. Don't think it really matters but up to personnel choice.
