Default Cummins in A-body

Anyone ever put a modern turbo diesel in an A-body? I think it would be an interesting swap. with the power these things are making now days it should be a pretty wild ride. i was just wondering if you guys have ever seen anything like this. my first choice for a swap would be a cummins 5.9 out of a late 90's dodge. they are bulletproof and will make just about all the power you ask them to, if you can afford it. longevity, fuel economy, and torque are all strongpoints of this motor. only thing is its pretty tall, it might not even fit under the hood. what do you guys think?

That would be an interesting swap indeed. Hmmm...

Could you imagine the POOR ride quality though after finding springs to support that S.O.B. ?!?!?!

Not to mention the rest of the suspension. But........1200# of torque is EASY in the Cummins.

don't think you are going to fit a cummins in one but have seen a chev 6.2 diesel in a mid 70's vette same weight as a big block

I had to find out -- the complete engine weighs roughly 1200 pounds.

A diesel don't need no revs!!!! My powerstroke is just fine at 2200!

My brother has a Cummins out of a wrecked Dodge truck in his 85 Suburban. It fits in there no problem witn no body mods. It actually looks factory. The motor weighs 745 Lbs. His buddy has a 2003 3/4 ton Dodge 4x4 with some very minor mods that runs 12's all day long. Check out this link, (not his truck)

Along similar lines, I saw an 80s K-5 Blazer advertised for sale with a late 90's Cummins turbo diesel installed. I remember seeing photos of the engine bay and it didn't look that crowded. I never saw the truck in person, but the owner claimed it got 25 mpg.

Did you scale that? Was that with the head off or something? I can guarantee that a Cummins in full trim is more in the neighborhood of 1100 pounds.... I have one in a 92 F350. Did the install myself.

Gonna throw somethig else in here... I love my diesels, but just can't bring myself to do that to an old bruiser... Not really sure I want to deal with it even on a newer car, guess it brings back bad memories of the diesel Toro's my uncle had...

Ok Enough already! After speaking with my brother I stand corrected. He said the total weight of his truck increased about 750 lbs. He went from a 454/ turbo 400 to the Cummins with a 5 speed. He said the motor weighs around 1150 pounds.

They put a Duramax in an Impala on Pimp My Ride..........looked like it ran the 1/4 pretty quick........outran a Lambo, but it could have been staged. It did appear to run the 1/4 pretty quick though. ran it on biodiesel.

he didn't gain any mileage over a 6.2 blazer, they'll run 25 all day long. my 78 4x4 4spd truck with 4:10's and 33" tires will run 20 all day long.

i'm not a fan of the cummins in the dodges.

now a duramax or 7.3 powerstroke would turn my head.

i've thought of dropping a turbo'd 6.2 in a mid 70's g/p for a while now. there's just been too many iron's in the fire ahead of it.

Smile cummins rules

power-choke & dura-miny these will NEVER run as long, as good, or even come close in mpg. My 1 ton two wheel drive will run 15.30 all day, in every day cond. and get 19 -22 mpg. And pull anything I have had 35,000 pd's on the trailer and still got 16 mpg. Just my 2-cents BLACK SMOKE MAKES ME HORNY

I once saw a CAT 3208 put in a F350 - they had to raise the cab slightly.

www.18to1.com

this guy put a duramax into a Grand National. actually, i think it's a grand national clone or something.... he got an original diesel car (cutlass) and modified the body to look like grand national so that he would continue to be exempt from smog stuff in California.

was not just whipped together either. he put a lot of effort & $$ into it. pretty cool if you like diesels.
