61-62 B-body fan shroud.
I'm in the market for one and ran across one for $500. Does that seem excessive or am I just that out of touch on these things.

i dunno...the big car shrouds are way /or where...easier to buy than GTO shrouds..and part of the problem for scarcity is, they convert them to GTO so its killed half of them right there...
i sold a 63 ruff one on ebay for like $350...so a mint one is prob worth it..id say look around a little more, you may fond one, or you may search for 3 years... they are tuff to get in 2019 all that 61 62 stuff is hard to find....

Does sound excessive although they are hard to find. Don't remember what I paid for mine but that was several years ago. Certainly not $500. And I compromised on a 63-64 shroud. They can be made to work by adding a flat piece of steel to either side so the mounting holes can be moved out 1 inch each side. If you are judging for points that would be unacceptable. But it works and likely no one but yourself will ever notice.

The trick is trying to find one...they were used on a/c cars only (as well as some cars with heavy duty cooling, like police cars) and since air conditioning was a pretty uncommon option back then there just weren't that many of them made.

Watch ebay and craigslist religiously.

And then try to get the correct finger guard also. Proper ones have a little bracket that bolts to the shroud. Some are long and some are short. Not sure what is correct for each year.

Here's a '63/'64 on ebay no buyer so far with 8 hrs left to go. Listed @ $199 with a "make offer" option. Make the man an offer.

But I am running a 19 inch blade. I have an 18 inch left from some old Chevy years ago but didn't use it because of the diameter. The 19 inch has about 1 inch space to the shroud all around and if I don't break a motor mount and torque over too far I think I' good. The blade I'm using came off e-bay and is one of those originally (I think) for some model option for 65 GTO that has the little notch at the end of each blade. |
