Default 64 Catalina quarter panel chrome??

I was hoping someone on here could help me. I recently purchased a 64 cat convertible that was missing the rear quarter panel chrome. I have heard it is hard to find and often expensive. Is this true? I found a set from a guy that is not perfect (a few dings and a couple scratches). What should I expect to pay for them? He offered them to me for $90 plus the ride. Is this a good/fair deal?

If they are as described, it is a great deal.

He sent pictures, and they look pretty good. Don't look to be bent and the dents look pretty small.

That's a really good deal, full sets of all 6 pieces in nice shape can bring $1000.

Hmmmmmmmmmm........let me think..........uh...NO!!!!!!!
Final purchase wound up being $129 US delivered including the 2 rear quarter strips and one front fender "spear". Hopefully they look half as good as they do in the pictures and match his description.

man that is wild that the '64 side trim is so high... I remember an eRape auction last year where some deep-pocketed dude dropped something like two grand on an NOS 6-piece set for Cat 2dr HT.

...I guess what I am saying is that I thought only us '61-'63 guys got taken to the cleaners on every little thing...

hope it works out for ya.

Also, give Steve at www.IndianaPontiacs.com a try...he's a good cat and into '4s like few others...

Matt, The reason that 64 2dr side trim is so high is that a good set almost does not exist and it is not made of stainless. Even back in the early days, most 64's had been sideswiped just enough to flatten the trim out. Both brother's 64 Cats were like that in the 70's, when they got them.

'64 Cat side trim is aluminum? Ah... nice, soft, impact-absorbing aluminum.

Matt,
Yes, soft, impact-absorbing aluminum....

I'm working a few things right now and hopefully will be reproducing the side trim for the '64 Cat - in stainless I hope. Also, I'm hoping to be covering the '63 & '64 Cat/GP trunk pan and floor pans, to include rear body mounts that I will be selling separate if someone just needs them.

I will be posting a set of Catalina side trim molding on ebay here in the next few days. All but one front fender spear is salvagable. 1/4 moldings need some straightening, but are very workable.

Question How much...

would the two front fender spears be worth...scratch and dent free? I have two that might be up for grabs. Thanx. Ron

Was wondering if you had any luck working out a deal to remanufacture 1964 Catalina Side Trim that you mentioned in a post a long time ago back in 2007? I am a new member with a user id of 64CatHt4dr.

I think all that chrome does is cover up the cars beautiful body lines... The basic lines on those cars are so pleasant to look at..
