Googling shows this (not necessarily correct as I do not know source of info):

9793235 is a '68 casting number while 9799202 is a '70..None mention these numbers specific to any GTO engine

I have a bare "N" housing out of 69 GTO which had a 4 pinion posi with 3:90 gears and the cast # is also 9795084.
I sold the posi and gears and axles years ago, dumb.

I have a 9799202 that I believe is a 1969 XH. It has the N and was pulled from a very rusty but low milage '69 4 speed GTO. The axle tubes are too pitted to get any codes off of and the casting date on the center is funky- only 3 digits, very clear and evenly spaced- 1 4 9.

I don't know; maybe Eric White's book? Don't have it with me, but has some pretty good info on part #'s.

Have a few 3.55 N rearends. 9795084 casting.

What's the deal with the axles? Are they supposed to be non-tapered for the HD N r/e? I have one HD 4 pinion posi 3.55 r/e with one tapered and one non-tapered axle.

Scott

Scott

That was my next question, what's up with the axles. If I had an older MPC I'd be checking out the listings to see what differences it showed. I doubt my 83 MPC has anything good, but I'll look here in a bit.

If the third member is the same on a 3.55 to 4.33, I would be willing to pay good money for a HD 3.55 N A. I have a regular XH 3.55 I paid $650 for, I would trade or sell that to anyone towards my goal. I also have a 12 3.73 with new GM axles and clutch kit that has been in my 69 GTO since the early 80's, will sell or trade that toward my goal also. Do not know a price on that one, what ever the going rate is.

Isn't 68 a ZL code?

Who started the axle being different in the N rearend? Curious what the facts are behind that?

83 MPC shows the same axle for A 68-70 exc. L.D.

Doesn't have a listing for the L.D. in 83, so I can't see if there were differences in L.D.'s; which there would have to be if the story is correct about the axles are different for N. Anyone have an older MPC they can check to verify?
