The rings were absolutely flat black from the factory.

is that because it had too much clear?
what was the 'tell' to you?

I had mine done about 4 years ago. The turning looks good. Side by side with a factory fresh piece you can tell the difference a long the edges. He painted the bezels and dash bird with what looks like "watered down" paint.. that was my biggest beef. On the car it looks fine.. If you put your face in it you can tell. The average person wouldn't ever notice. Overall a very nice presentable piece though. Looks a lot better than what I sent him...even though my original was in decent shape. I don't wanna bad mouth the guy as he was very prompt and did nice work... I'm just being nitpicky.. And there is no way in hell I could've restored it myself.

Randy does very nice work. Be patient. I sent him 5 bezels to restore and it took him 4 months to complete them all. One early 70 bezel was so bad that I figured it was scrap. Came back looking brand new. He does nice work and will provide you with the little accessory plates if you need it for free. I was missing one and he threw it in. He does have a full time job and does this on the weekends and at night.
