I use them all the time. Mostly because their website is so well organized. It amazes me how many parts are still readily available for my '66, at a competitive price.

You couldn't give me any part from Rock Auto They are owned by A1 Auto parts any they are the biggest crooks I've ever seen or dealt with. If Rock Auto send the wrong part, good luck sending it back for the correct one you ordered. 5 guys I know her got the shaft from then in the past 2 months. They wouldn't take back the wrong parts they sent them.
They came into the parts store here than deals with A1, as they have a monopoly around here; to get their money back or the parts sent to them from A1, or exchange them for the correct parts. Which can't be done. Has to go thru Rock Auto, so good luck.

these days there are few skilled people in the auto parts industry - even in dealerships where they are selling only parts for new cars they mostly employ the caliber of people who need to start with your vin to find anything for you;
That being said, you need to take a similar approach to RA as you do at just about any brick and mortar auto parts business; You need to look at cross reference ect to find the problems in their listings. I do this every time before I click "order"; Parts for our Caliber SRT4 and Cobalt SS are often listed wrong (parts for the lesser models which do not interchange are listed as being for our cars) - the cross reference will tell you if it's wrong... As to the wrong parts being sent; I did have a single instance years ago, before they went wholly automated so I was able to speak to someone and get it remedied - these days, you need to be extra careful, because you CANNOT speak to someone... It is pretty hard to argue with a fourty to seventy percent price difference for the exact same parts... which is what I have observed - especially on my Cobalt's brake components.

I've NEVER received a wrong part. And I've bought literally TONS of stuff
But I always double or triple-check that the part number is correct before I pay.
For parts that are questionable, or where the application / fitment is kind of muddied, we always verify the correct part number from other sources (NAPA, GM, whoever). Many parts (electrical, engine, brakes) will show you which original GM part numbers they are supposed to replace. I have had a few items - including two AC condensors that got tweaked - that arrived damaged. They were quickly replaced and I did not have to return the damaged parts. But as with any online purchase, caveat emptor. Do your homework before you click on 'order'. But the 1/2 off (or better) pricing is usually worth the extra effort..... Good luck! |
