Question 56 BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH

Helping out a local/fellow Pontiacer who is in need of a correct brake light switch for his '56.
Unfortunately, the PO cobbled in some sort of modern electrical switch and I have nothing to go by.
Can anyone here with a '55, '56 or '57 provide me with some good clear images of a correct switch set up and any other pertinent information?

Much appreciated.

Cheers.

MPC calls out different switches for power brakes vs. non-power brakes.

Non-power are GM part number is 1997923. RockAuto has them for $12.99. This is a mechanical (not hydraulically) activated switch.

'56 Power Brakes use GM part number 1998142 according to the MPC. RockAuto calls out a different switch for '56 Pontiacs, but makes no separate call for power vs. non-power brakes. Same for O'Reilly's.

Switches are common on Ebay, should only take 2 wires?
There are good schematics free on line.

Thumbs up

I haven't taken a good look into this yet so no familiar with how it was/is installed.
While breezing EPay I came across several offerings.
I'm pretty sure it' s not power but forgot to ask/look.

Does the switch below look right?

And if so I assume it bolts up to the pedal bracket?

I appreciate the info.

Cheers.

My '57 book show Manual brakes with a floor mount peddle & Power brakes with a hanging peddle. My car is not here to photograph but I will request photos from a friend's 56 safari. It has PB.

Here are some pics of 56 brakelight switch. I'm pretty sure 57 will be the same.

Based on a quick online search I see the above images are a Power Brake set up?
Larry is that correct?

Below are what I found for switches, Power and None Power.
Does anyone have the none power set up?

I hope to get back over to the car in question asap and I just want to be sure of what I'm looking at/for.

Thanks.

Yes, the images I posted are '56 Power Brake setup. I checked the Master Parts Catalog and it shows a different part number for 56 vs 57 power brake pedal bracket. So the photos may be different than 57. So far, I've not been able to find the Brake Light Switch in the catalog to see if it is different for 56 vs 57.
