Default 10-Bolt refresh

Lookin to refresh my 1969 10-Bolt carrier and make it a full functional POSI Again.
It’s just a casual street driver.
50 year old OEM - Tru-Trac Acts like a single wing..
Reviews of EATON seems to be most favored on several points over YUKON and other brands..
Car will be happy with clutch type or Locker setup.
Might upgrade Axle to 30/31 spline also.
NO mods on the housing (C=clip eliminator).
Gears to be replaced.

Open to information on all points of setup.

Thx

I’d imagine your 69 10 bolt isnt much different than my 67. If so, they don’t have c clips, the axles have a flange on the outside of the pressed on axle bearing that retains the axle in the housing. I installed the Eaton carbon fiber clutch type posi in my axle and love it. I’m running 3.36 gears and love them as well. I’m not sure what your current gear ratio is or what ratio you’re planning on running but, Be aware that with the Eaton carrier, 3.36 is the lowest numerically gear ratio you can run. For most people this isn’t an issue.

The target of ratio 3:36 is about what I thought will work for my application.
No doubt I need to become properly familiar with the exact setup what the entire diff is designed with.
As from most all descriptions and Videos I have watched display the C-clip type components.
If my 1969 OEM unit has the flange setup this is a Plus to the scheme of thing, as I believe that is superior in strength.
Likely my final choice well be the clutch type POSI as really I don’t need a beast locker, as again it’s a street driver and I have no plans to abuse the running gear.
So, do you have opinion on either an EATON carrier or just a refresh on my OEM with new pieces etc??

I have an Eaton and it flat out works great. I do occaisionally get a bit of chatter on tight turns but I didn't add the friction modifier either so.......... One thing I would do is definately update the axles. I didn't and regret it as I will be upgrading the material of my axles but not the spline count since I am not buying another Eaton just to get the 30 spline count.

So, This makes sense to get the bigger Dia., axle pieces upfront and do it right first time.
Certainly will never regret it and extra monies spent is well worth it.
I’m going to begin looking for sources of these parts and PN’s etc.
As I go I’m thinking a good clutch POSI will last the rest of my time with it.

JD race and Restoration 330-990-8155 told me last week $150 plus return shipping to cut the cones down and reshim it , 30 dollars more to put new bearings on it.

I'm looking to replace my OEM carrier in my street car also ,nothing wrong with it . Looking at the Eaton posi , already have Moser axles and another gearset . Just llookimg for a little more strength for an occasional day at the track . For bop 8.2 carrier 28 spline axles are only thing available . You can get up to 33 spline in an 8.5 diff I think .

I've cut the cones and shimmed the side gears before and it won't be nearly as good as a new clutch style posi from Eaton. I would spend the extra $ and put an Eaton in, I've used them and they work great. The cone style design is a POS IMO.

That cone "posi" style always looked like somebody's patent work-around to me.
