New self learning EFI at half the price....
I posted this here because its definately a street car thing and the boost section dosent get much traffic.
Theres a company called FITech .They are making self learning EFI setups for 600hp-less engines for 995.00 or 250-1200hp engines for 1495.00. They control timing and do everything the high dollar setups do, use factory GM sensors and injectors and the guys building it are supposedly really top notch fellas from the things ive read around the net. Theyre also self contained, no external box and minimal wiring. The handled unit used to set it up is removeable after install. This might change everything. A guy on PT.com installed one on his wifes auto X mustang and said it works flawlessly. I've done a bit of reading on the sub 600 hp system and spoke with Ken at FiTech. He indicated FiTech produces many of the components for OEM efi systems, many of which are used in GM vehicles. This along with their business model keeps their cost down. At this point, they have about 500 systems in circulation and a claimed 100 % success rate. I am seriously considering the conversion once I get over the start up of the new engine.

Big question for the Pontiac crowd will be can this be used with a drop base air cleaner or stock air cleaner without the use of spacers? That FPR looks awfully close as do the fuel lines once you put fittings on them.

VERY interesting. Beyond the $1000 for the basic 600hp system I wonder what else is required? New fuel pump, fuel lines etc?

Definitely a new system to keep an eye on. I was considering the Holley Eliminator system for my Catalina, but this unit looks like the way to go IF they prove to have long-term reliability.

Will be keeping my eye on this. I've got an old offy dual quad manifold, that dual tbi setup looks intriguing!

Edelbrocks q-jet adapter is 3/4" high and my Holley is 3 1/4" like this throttle body. The float bowl screw is 5" from the center which is the same as the FPR on this TB. With my drop base, I need a 3/8" air cleaner spacer to clear my carb. So bottom line is that this should fit pretty much the same as my set up. Maybe some dimpling on my drop base which would not be much of a problem.

Since there aren't bowl vents to contend with could the air cleaner lid be closer to the throttle body and still work properly?

It looks like they are back-ordered on the base kits. I'm waiting for a response back from them about their timing control support for different dizzies. They are stating you just need a two wire dizzy fired by a coil, where kits like the Terminator require a dual sync dizzy.
If my current distributor can be locked out and fired by this unit, I'll probably purchase it next week.

In order for their system to control spark you need a non-HEI distributor other wise the curve in your dizzy is in control. So, go crank triggered ignition or what other options are their?

Their FAQ states you need a 2 wire type distributor. The specifically mention MSD as well as Summit and Jegs branded models. They also state no CD box needed.
I'm currently running a Mallory Unilite with a ProMaster coil. It's been a good distributor, but it's a model that does not contain or have provisions for a vacuum advance. If I can lock that out and have the ECU control the coil, that would save me almost $600.00 over a FAST duel sync and MSD 6AL box.

Wonder if the TB is shorter than the Fast EZ EFI 2? Trying to fit everything under a stock formula hood with factory appearing air cleaner.

The configuration of the TB reminds me of the Carter 4BBL. AFB, AVS, Thermo Quad models, as far as dimensions and layout. The internals are where the float bowls would be on a Carter.

I installed the fast ez efi on my 69 lemans several years ago. With the stock tank I always smelled a lot of fumes. I ended up getting a tank from tanksinc. with the pump in tank, very nice tank and from the rear of the car it looks stock. Also frangola has some nice push lock hose and fittings. hope this helps Jeff

This setup also intrigued me, but as others stated, wanted to hear some real world reviews on reliability before popping on it. Besides, I don't have an engine ready quite yet for it to feed.
I sent an email a little bit ago about using an HEI running an MSD6AL. no response yet. When setting up to run with an MSD box, you gut the module out of the disty, and are just using the HEI for its magnetic triggering. It seems like it's doing the same thing as the RTR, since the magnetic trigger fires the box, and the box fires the coil. I guess I'm not seeing why a gutted HEI wouldn't work. I understand that the HEI cap isn't made to be indexed, but that could be overcome somehow.
