So Ive been skimming through this thread since it started. And with what people have said I think Im going to give it a shot since I dont have a carb yet anyway.

But I want to confirm what I think I have read about intakes. Everyone usually says on this board that for street performance you are usually better off using a ported stock intake. Especially since it alleviates any hood clearance issues. As such I had planned on going that route.

But you guys are saying with this specific application an aftermarket 4150 designed unit (probably a performer RPM) would be better than using a stock intake an an adapter?

That seams to be the case unless you modify the plenum on the original intake. I'm running a P4B, so I can't say on how it would mount or perform on a factory intake.

I am going to be using a factory intake that I have modified for my 78 trans am. My goal is to keep everything as stock looking as possible. I am just waiting for the efi and fuel command center to show up so I can start to mock it up. I have most of the modification done to the intake I am just waiting to get the efi unit and mount it to it to make sure I have removed enough material from it. I also plan on using the factory shaker air cleaner base so I have a spare base that I can mock up with the intake and efi off the car to make sure I have proper clearance for the fuel lines etc. My goal is to have everything dialed in and layed out before I ever remove my factory carb and shaker setup that I am currently using. My biggest concern is clearance between the fuel inlet and the air cleaner base. May have to do a little modification to the base. We will see.

6t7goat, please post pictures of your modified intake when it's done!

That's the cool thing about the FiTech mounting holes, it will mount to the spreadbore studs. The only problem is with the manifold if it has the spreadbore holes in it. Aftermarket intakes don't limit themselves to spreadbore intakes like this.

I think we're all in agreement that a factory intake is superior to any aftermarket intake (with the same factory height that is).

So I downloaded the SEMA app on my phone and saw that FITech will have a 550hp and 1050hp port injection setup amongst other new units they are showcasing this week.

That is interesting. Since I found out the stock iron intake I had been planning on using isnt really optimal for the FItech setup I dont have an intake now. So if the kit, which i assume will come with a plumbed intake isnt much more than an RPM and the normal system will cost me I might be a buyer for the 550 set up.

Nicks67GTO, what intake do you have that doesn't work?

I believe the tuned port is a kit minus the intake, you would need to buy or make your own intake with the injector locations ready to be drilled and tapped, If not already. E.g. Victor intake.

If I do a port injection setup Ill probably just do the torker2 that's got the bosses cast in. If I do a TBI setup I'm considering getting crazy and doing a dual quad or a cross ram for the hell of it....im not sure though. Just kicking ideas around. I started another thread on that

Did FiTech mention cost? I wonder if their Fuel Command Center will work with their TPI system?

Wonder if anyone has pictures of their booth at SEMA?

It's too bad no one is making a dedicated port FI intake for Pontiacs. Best we can do is rely on existing single-plane designs which aren't optimum for most street cars.

Holley just announced a new low cost TBI system, the "Sniper EFI" which appears to be directly aimed at the FItech product. I saw it today at SEMA and it looks very similar, if not identical, and is at the same price point as FItech. Both 4 injector units rated @ 600 HP and 8 injector units rated @ 1200 HP are offered.

It is scheduled for release Q1 of 2016.

I"ll try and snap some pics of the FItech booth tommorow.

Competition should be good for the consumer

Okay, that's a dual-plane design but it's still a carb manifold (wet flow) design that has injector bosses added to it. That should work better for a street engine application for many people than a single-plane but it's still not an EFI specific design.

I'm talking about something like a modern LSx type intake for a Pontiac - something that's designed specifically for a fuel injected engine with optimized runners, plenum, and throttle body.

Other than the throttle body, does any of that make a difference when fuel is injected directly into the head runner with multi port injection. Or is that the point?
