Default Distributorless Ignition System

I was kicking around the idea of using a dirtributorless ignition system on my 70 GTO. Does anybody have any experience or recommendations? What systems have you used? Where did you mount it? Thanks

A distributor housing, without a cap on it. ; ) I'm sure you will need to fashion one unless someone already makes one.

BOP makes an oil pump drive "stub" to run the pump without a distributor. You can order it with any type of gear you need. I built my own front drive distributor run off the cam gear using a MOON front cover but never ran it. I went distributorless using a Megasquirt MS3 and coil on plug. I still used a modified chevy cam sensor in place of the front distributor.

I use this on big block ford. Coil packs off 4.6 crown Vic or mustang. It is waste spark so only need crank sensor.

Luhn Performance did a CNP System (coil near plug) using individual coils on John Cleggs
engine (Pontiac Racer out of Texas and I believe he also did a system for Kelvin Poe in Kansas for his Holley System. Mark at Luhn Performance owned BOP Engineering before he sold it to the current owner "Wade".

So he knows all about the stuff you need to do on the distributor spud and the oil pump drive.

Kind of "Busy" on the valve cover but works well on modern vehicles.
The Luhn deal comes off the valve cover and swings out of the way for valvetrain maint.

BOP makes a nice billet stub drive for the oil pump. If you decide to go this route, I have a new one with bronze gear for sale. PM me if interested.

There's a couple dual and quad post coil packs on the market, and if you have room, you can hang them off the back of the head.

There's multiple options for triggers and pump drives, and yes, the boosted section is a good source of info.

There are stand-alone controllers for DIS, but honestly, if you're going to spend the money, you would be better off in the long run using a 'main-stream' EFI ECU, for reliability and support.
